While I do agree poudning the strike zone is something he needs to work on, it's not as simple as just getting the ball over. We saw what happened to him against Tampa earlier this year when he simply just "throws strikes". While Daisuke does nibble, simply throwing the ball over against a major league lineup - even the Orioles - can lead to bad results. Pitching is all about painting the corners.

 

One thing I've noticed abotu Daisuke is when he uses his fastball a lot more to paint the corners he ends up doing a better job. Too many offspeed ptiches he tries to paint the black and when unsuccessful he gets into some real bad counts. If he can pound the corners with his fastball, it makes his other pitches that much more effective.

Dice-k has a 1.80 ERA with Varitek behind the plate this season. If there is one pitcher that would pitch significantly different with different catchers, Dice-k is that guy.

We now have the same record that we had last season at this point, so our suck is no longer unprecedented. 10 games from now, we could be saying "what slump?". Make it happen.

 

Only in this messed up season would I be more concerned about playing the Os at home than playing the Yankees on the road.

Also, Carl Crawford is the only player on our team to see Tillman more than 2 times. He is 6 for 12 against Tillman with a double and two triples and a 1.417 OPS.

 

I'm dying to see Crawford go on a legit tear where he's getting XBH every night.

But. He is 3-2 with a 7.12 ERA @ Camden yards. He is 1-1 with a 3.44 ERA vs BAL while playing @ Fenway.
