Also, I'd have to look at the charts, but I feel like Nova shows too much of his stuff too early. Might explain his struggles the second and third times through the order.

Haha new series ... playing the Twins now. Come on now VA' date=' keep up.[/quote']

Oh damn. I'm an idiot and I've actually been watching the game on and off....how sad is that? Come on Twins! :)

Should be Logan or Robertson right here.

EDIT: Worked out. Two nice curves to keep the lead. But Nova has stayed true to form, and struggled after the first time through the order.

Defense letting the Yankees down a bit. Thome's double was catchable' date=' and Swisher had a chance there if he came up with it cleanly.[/quote']

Thome's double was catchable on a perfect read with a perfect route. That was a well struck ball, with lots of ground to cover. I wouldn't fault the defense there.

That's fair. Unlike the Swisher play, I wouldn't call it a mistake. On the other hand, I think you're overstating the difficulty by a little bit. It would have been an excellent play, but Granderson came relatively close to catching it, while taking a really bad route to the ball.

Bit lucky there that Young didn't go with the pitch, which was hittable and could have been shot into right field, but I guess it was a decent breaking ball.

It worked out, but I really think Joe got a bit lucky there. Nova was struggling, and some hittable pitches were missed by some very good hitters. With that being said, I thought he would get hit, and I was definitely wrong. Really hope that's it, despite what turned out to be a quick sixth inning.

First time I've seen Chamberlain this year. Boy's getting husky. You could tell he always had that potential, and he's starting to live up to it.

No matter how this works out' date=' the right move is Mo for Mauer and Morneau.[/quote']

I don't know, it's April 5. Soriano is getting paid to relieve some of the pressure on Rivera. I'd let him do what he's getting paid for until he shows he can't.

No matter what they're getting paid, I think they should have done what gives them the best chance to win the game. Mauer and Morneau are so dangerous, especially at NYS. Even if they didn't want to use Mo for more than 3 outs, have him pitch the 8th and Soriano the 9th. That way, even if Mo pitches a 1-2-3 inning, Mauer or Morneau don't face Soriano as the potential go-ahead run.

Nova was money today. Nothing other than 2 2 run taters and Nova makes it stick. We'll be handing Mo a lead' date=' which is all you can ask for[/quote']

And the Rivera strikezone makes and appearance.

Yup. Stunned he didn't get the call against Valencia lol.

Also, I don't think A-Rod makes that play last year. Definitely looks healthy.

No, the strikezone was the strikezone against Valencia.

If you were enouraged by the way Nova looked in this game, then your expectations are bit low. Good result, yes. Looked good, meh.

Lots of lefties in the lineup and his first start of the season. He showed good stuff and threw a ton of strikes. I have said before that I expect Nova to have a 4.50ERA this yr, and he lived up to it exactly. This is the kind of team I expected to light him up. Regardless, our 7-8-9 in the pen look ridiculous. Anyone who can get through 6 with a lead is gonna get a win

Soriano looks good, and Rivera is a robot, but I'm not sold on Chamberlain. He's lost something on the FB, and it's looking like conditioning is going to be an issue. Looks good now, but we're only 4 games into a very long season.

His FB, I am convinced, will never get back to 99-101 like it was in 2007. But he's showing a lot of 96mph and had a slider the other day at 92mph. If he is back in that range, then he'll be untouchable. I do expect him to be less consistent then Sori or Mo, but that 3 pitcher combo should be dominant

You mean he's lost something on the fastball since the injury in 2008?

On the YES gun. Pitch f/x has him at 94, maxing out at 95 tonight, and on Thursday he didn't break 92. That's his FB.

Untouchable, dominant? That's a bit much, but it's also very expected.
