I think if by some chance he ends up here you have to leave Tex at first. Pujols is a plus-defender at first' date=' but Tex is better.[/b'] You could DH Albert, or rotate him around a little from DH to first (when Tex needs a day here and there) and left field, especially against lefties considering the struggles that Gardner and Granderson have against southpaws. I wouldn't commit to him as a permanent DH though with the eventual need to have that position available for other aging stars such as Jeter and A-Rod. But like I said you could play him in left against lefties, DH him occasionally, he could possibly play third when Alex DH's (he came up as a shortstop/third baseman I believe), and so on. Either way, when you have a player like Pujols you make it work somehow.

Only in planet Yankee. Pujols is arguably the best defensive 1B in the business, and you can bet money he won't shift positions for a lesser defender and ballplayer like A-Rod did. Did the Cliff Lee issue not teach you all that pinstripes are not magical?

All of this is a facade and Pujols will stay with the Cardinals. Stop the mental masturbation sessions, all of you.

I dunno. I heard the Cards' initial offer to Pujols was pretty low. Like insultingly low compared to other players' salaries. I think he walks after the season is over.

Why? They would have a young elite bat to build around. If anything' date=' Holliday provides some insurance.[/quote']

Young? He's 31. Pujols is also 31 and is actually a day younger than Holliday lol.

If I were a Cardinals fan and if it came down to it I would choose Pujols before Holliday in a heartbeat.

Lots of input here, but not very realistic. Pujols will not play left field again. Anyone who knows about Pujols knows his medical conditions will not permit him to play effectively in left field. I can't see any team wanting a $30M a year player who would only be able to play 100 games per year, at best, in left field. The only way he goes to the Yankees is if they convince Texeira to DH, not Pujols, or deal Texeira somewhere else. That would be difficult without picking up a huge part of his contract.

Pujols not signing today puts AGon in a tough spot. He could have benefited in his salary negotiations had Pujols signed a contract in the neighborhood he is seeking. Speaking of Pujols demands - they are unrealistic in terms of number of years. I don't believe the Cardinals will ever offer him a 10 year contract at $30M per year. I could see a front loaded contract with the out years ( 6 - 10) being at a lower rate. Regardless of how good he has been, there is no way he can continue to put up those type of numbers for the next 10 years.

True, but I don't think anyone said it was one OR the other. I doubt that anyone would take Holliday OVER Pujols, but if signing Holliday can help convince Pujols to stay, then I think it's a move that you have to make. The worst thing St. Louis can do is make it appear that they aren't trying to surround him with ample talent to win. (A la the Cavaliers)
