Still' date=' though. A 2.4% weight loss is not going to do much. He still requires clown pants and two seats on a plane.[/quote']

He's American. He's going to be obese. No way around it.

30 lbs will definitely take some of the wear and tear off the knees. But keeping it off will be tougher than losing it. I could drop 30 pounds too, but I'd probably gain 40 after that once I got off the diet

Very true.

It comes down to self discipline.

And CC needs to loose about 60 lbs.

I know.

Yep. He's making a crapload of money right now, but he's still got an incentive to shop around for a better contract. That incentive is simple: this is the best time in his career to be going after his last really big contract.

He's 30. If he opts out next year he'll be 31. If he waits through the rest of his current deal he'll be 35. No one will sign a big man like Sabathia at age 35. Not to that kind of contract Sabathia wants. So he goes out there at 30-31, when he has at least 3-4 really useful years left in him and a GM can gamble he'll keep his arm for the life of a 6 or 7 year deal before he really falls off the wagon, and he can get a nice long term deal for more money on the end of it than he could possibly get if he plays out the Yankee contract. And a pitcher of Sabathia's skill isn't going to make that much less on the market than he's making now, not with Cliff Lee setting the price this offseason. So if he can risk a modest paycut now to add 2-3 more lucrative years at the end of the deal, that's definitely something for Sabathia to seriously consider doing.

CC is not opting out ' date=' who the hell is going to pay him more per year that he's currently getting now? I just dont see this happening[/quote']

The Phillies could. Halladay, CC, Lee, Oswalt and Hamels. Wow.

Doesn't have to be more, heck it could be less over more years. Guaranteed years are very important to ballplayers, and he's got a lot better shot to get his age 34+ years covered by some kind of contract next year than he does if he doesn't opt out now.

Theo will most definitely put an offer out there for him. Even if it's a low ball offer for 6 years, just to get Cash to have to up his offer.

I wouldn't mind going 6/120 for the guy. He's a workhorse and can you imagine CC-Lester-Buch?? My dear God. That would be sick. By the time DiceK leaves and takes his $10mm salary with him, it would only be a $10-12mm increase in payroll.

I wouldn't want the Sox to sign him just for the years they would have to agree to. Offering like 7/70 to force the Yankees to up their ante is fine, but I wouldn't want him past his 35 season for more. I don't think CC's going to age well.

Like it's been said, it's not about the $ per year. It's the guaranteed years. He can add 3-4 more years at probably around what he's making now more then likely. He would easily be the best SP available. Lee just got 5/120M. And he was 2 years older then what CC will be. He will get paid from someone. Most likely the Yankees. But he'sd going to get a new deal.

Worth mentioning too, that there's a chance the Yankees might not make the playoffs next year. We have the tools here in Boston to take the division. If nothing goes hideously wrong, and the Wild Card comes out of the West or the Central, that's going to be on Sabathia's mind when he makes the call.

CC is a guy who I think will age very well.

Hell yeah the Sox would make an aggressive offer at CC if the Yankees let him get on the market again. I don't think it would necessarily be wise to blow the Yankees out of the water, but to make them pay through the nose it would be worth it. CC's a very good pitcher and he's extremely valuable to the Yanks.

I hope the Angels would still be interested in him too.

He'll seem to age well for awhile, then his knees will go out on him and all at once he'll be gone, much like Bartolo Colon.
