Four-Star Prospects

1. Jose Iglesias, SS

2. Anthony Ranaudo, RHP

Three-Star Prospects

3. Josh Reddick, OF

4. Drake Britton, LHP

5. Kolbin Vitek, 3B

6. Brandon Workman, RHP

7. Yamaico Navarro, INF

8. Felix Doubront, LHP

9. Oscar Tejeda, 2B

10. Stolmy Pimentel, RHP

11. Will Middlebrooks, 3B

Nine More:

12. Garin Cecchini, 3B: This fourth-rounder received a first-round bonus and can hit, but his bat is what will have to carry him.

13. Lars Anderson, 1B: There are still some things to like here, but the actual on-field performance has to return.

14. Bryce Brentz, OF: He packs a lot of power in a smaller package, but his huge swing was exposed as pro.

15. Ryan Lavarnway, C: An offense-oriented catcher, Lavarnway still has work to do behind the plate.

16. Sean Coyle, INF: As a 5-foot-8 second baseman with crazy-good bat speed, the unfair Pedroia comps are inevitable.

17. Kendrick Perkins, OF: This sixth-round pick has excellent athleticism, but he's very, very far from being a baseball player.

18. Jeremy Hazelbaker, OF: Hazelbaker showed power and speed at Low-A, but he was old for the level and had lots of swing-and-miss in his stroke.

19. Luis Exposito, C: He's solid across the board at a position where that's a virtue, but nothing stands out.

20. Che-Hsuan Lin, CF: A crazy-great fielder who can walk, it's easy to imagine his future as a bench outfielder.

I can admit I like some Red Sox prospects, but Josh Reddick is not one of them. For some reason I hate him. I can't fathom how he still gets high ratings. Is the Sox system really that weak?

I think it is fair to say that few people really know what the Sox system has in it. There's a chance that there isn't much talent aside from Iglesias and Ranaudo; there's also a chance that many of the higher upside draft talent from last year and the year before could be very good players. Guys like Cecchini, Perkins and Coyle are all basically wild-cards. We will have to see.

I have little doubt that the Sox system will be near the top again in two years.

It is when they just traded for one of the top 1B in the league.

We have Kalish, Iglesias and Doubront hungry for the 2012 season. Might fit Lavarnway in there too as a DH/C.

Because Kalish and Doubront exhaust their prospect limit, they're not found in these list.

I think all three are very solid additions to the team. They keep the cost down on the payroll. We don't need another starting FAs OF, SS and 5th SP.

While the 2010 picks like Ranaudo, and many young guys like Pimentel and Britton are on their way to AA to really start the challenge of better competition. We will have a better picture of their potential. Our system can really shoot it way to the top 10 by 2013.

Doubront is still on the list. I guess he hasn't exhausted his prospect status yet.

I'm perfectly fine with the system as it is - a bottom-heavy system loaded with quality prospects at the lower levels. It does not really matter that we're lacking at the higher levels, since the prospects that are almost ready are the ones that will fill the few holes we're going to have - OF (J.D. Drew), and SS (maybe, depending on how Lowrie plays this season). The rest of the Sox team is set for at least 2-3 years, and longer at many positions.

We still have a major question mark at catcher, and i don't think that Lavarnway will make's it up in 2012. I see Ortiz putting up big numbers this year with a lot of the pressure taken of him from the media from all the signings and 2009 was somewhat of a fake year for him seeing how he was playing the whole year injured with the wrist and you could see his mechanic's werent there for the first half of the year

Right now, the sox system in the minors is in shambles, but it was sure as hell productive. Graduated Buchholz, Bard, and Kalish over the past 2 seasons and was key in acquiring 2 all star players in their prime in VMart and AdGon. Right now, Doubront and Iglesias are the top tier talents still considered rookies in the system and a lot of talented yet very much unproven players below them. Make no bones about it, the sox system was ridden hard and put away wet, which is better than keeping all of the players and seeing 70% of them not amount to s*** due to injury or ineffectiveness. But the restocking started 2yrs ago with HS talent and really just started adding college level talent last yr. It's gonna be at least 2 yrs before the sox actually see a real top 10 ranking (KLaw's rankings are a joke, so I am talking BA, BP, AOLf or scout.com). But they have the building blocks, I like the kids they have, but they havent shown enough to be on the prospect map yet. 2011 will be big for their farm in either re-establishing themselves in terms of talent or possibly forcing their hand into a full out assault on the draft bonus babies who drop. If half the kids from the 2009 draft play to their potential in 2011 and half their high bonus college kids from 2010 play to their potential, the sox will be solid again.

I call hyperbole.

I may have taken my share of liberties, but as it stands right now, the sox really dont have a standout prospect above A ball. Drake Britton looks like a reliever, Iglesias hasnt proven he can hit, and Lavarnway is a DH masquerading as a catcher. That will change this yr, IMO, but right now, the system shouldnt be counted upon for anything more than cups of coffee

...which is good because they shouldn't need much from it.

Shambles is overstating it. To me, shambles implies unplanned messiness. That's not how this is. This was planned very well and they have a very good MLB club with a few other key positions (notably SS and RF) set to play for the big club starting in 2012 (or soon thereafter) for the foreseeable future.

Not planning on anything from your MiLB roster gets you in trouble by the end of the yr. Look at the Yankees 4 in 5 WS runs. Their farm got them ready then their farm kept them at the top with trades (Clemens, Justice, Fielder, etc) and with some unexpectedly key play. You need a strong farm all around to sustain greatness. Your farm got you to this point, now there arent any contingencies

Wasn't Clemens traded for Wells?
