The NFL is more popular than MLB. Used to be the Red Sox, now the Patriots. And the Celtics are far from unpopular. Pretty much back to the glory days.

The Celtics, where popular are still the third biggest team in the region. The Bruins are getting huge again as well. If they make it to the Stanley Cup, I think they could bump either the Sox or Celtics as the second biggest team.

I agree with WB, Patriots are the most popular team in Boston. Wikipedia seems to agree too

NFL in general draws higher ratings then MLB; NFL's popularity is that it is simply a better product to watch. Football is just a great sport to watch on television while baseball is meant to be enjoyed in person.

Wow, Wikipedia now agrees with me. Even though that site isn't to be trusted.

You must be joking?

I'm not joking at all. Divinity pulled that link and it's really true. Now, I could see it going back to baseball, since anyone can change links on that site.

Well' date=' for some reason, The Sports Hub guys like Michael Felger think that Boston/New England region is now is beloved to the Patriots.[/quote']

I've listened to Sportshub for the last three months until I realized... they don't talk about baseball, except to rag on it. They spend all of their time talking about hockey. Clearly, between Sportshub and WEEI, they each only prefer the sports that they have sports announcing rights for.

Which team is more popular in Boston is only a small part of the equation.

What's really important is which team is more popular worldwide, and that team is the Red Sox, and none of the other teams are even close.

They have horrible baseball talk. Though the Pats get good amount of coverage in WEEI, which the games are not broadcasted on the station. The Sports Hub does better at talking fringe sports such as MMA, World Cup soccer/futball, and hockey.

Yeah, I don't think Boston fans live and die with the Patriots. It's gotta be the Sox.

Outside of Boston, it's not even close. In fact, in my experience most of the people I've met hate the Patriots outside of Boston. Not the case with the Sox.

People love to hate when you're great.

Fans were only allowed five choices, but according to an ESPN SportsNation poll, the Dallas Cowboys are the team that football fans most love to hate. Bill Belichick's Patriots made it close, though.

The Cowboys got 36 percent of the vote for most despised team, with the Patriots second at 34 percent. Far behind were the other three choices: the Steelers (12 percent), the Giants and the Raiders (9 percent each).

And I just want to know, what with the backlash against the Red Sox in the Patsfan forum? You can be a fan of both. I love both teams. What with this thing with Pats fans thinking Red Sox are all fairweather, when there team was going to move twice. Twice.

We'll people seem a little Stoked about the Sox this Year:

Globe.

This info from the Red Sox:

The Boston Red Sox sold more than 29,000 tickets during the first day of 2011 Spring Training ticket sales, with approximately 2,450 purchased at the City of Palms Park Ticket Office windows.

Sales started this morning at 10 a.m.

Today's window sales were the highest in six years, and, as of 7 p.m. the number of tickets sold was the third highest one-day total in team history. The record one-day total of 32,000 tickets sold was set in 2006 for the 2007 season.

2011 Red Sox Spring Training tickets are still available, and can be purchased online at http://www.redsox.com, by phone at 888-REDSOX6, and at the City of Palms Ticket Office Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

I'm going to be a bit bummed if I can't go watch them play. The only time they play the Marlins is spring training. They don't play in the regular season.

Im not gonna see any games this year i dont think. I have to save money for spending cash at college and buying Hockey Stuff.

Not a surprise since with the addition of huge sightings like Crawford . Maybe the Sports Hub can start talking positive Sox talk instead of how they didn't get Mark Teixeira.

The obvious answer to this is Red Sox. I don't get how someone could think otherwise. Just observing things in western mass, everyone is mainly red sox fans, but fans of complete other football teams. If anything it seems like a lot of people actually hate the Patriots. Even inside of Boston i'd have to say the Red Sox are the overall more favorite team. Celtics 2nd I'd say

Where people hate the Patriots, they are just as popular. Lot of people in my family are bigger Patriots fans than Red Sox fans, I can tell you that.

The simple fact is... there are a lot more pink hat Red Sox fans than baby blue hat Patriot fans. Red Sox have the quantity, but the Patriots fans are more dedicated. Most of "Red Sox fans" I know didn't watch more than five games all last season. Most Patriot fans I know didn't miss five games all season.

Palodios: Not buying it. Baseball is never going to be as passionate a sport as football to begin with. It's not built to be. So that can't really be the question.

The true test will come when the teams start sucking again. Because it will happen eventually, entropy can be fooled for awhile but it eventually comes to claim its own.

Lots of opinions here, but really a very difficult question to answer. You would think the Red Sox, but football is now more popular than baseball. So it's hard to say. Maybe it depends on which team has a victory parade this year.

Patriots are the flavor of the week right now, and NFL is the country's most popular league. But Boston will always be first and foremost a baseball town. The true test is this:

December and Janary there is always Red Sox news. March through June there is rarely Patriots news.
