Since it's a really slow draft day, Dipre and I were talking and Dipre came up with the idea of opening a trade window. Originally, we figured that we'd only allow trades at the end of the draft, but depending on your opinions, we can allow trades at any time for the rest of the draft.

There will be a separate thread for trade discussion, and there will be a few conditions (which were my idea) before a trade can be processed.

1. Both teams have to clearly agree to the deal. Both teams would have to post in the trade thread (or message me at the least) and say that they agree to trade person x for person y (or person y for person x in the other person's case)

2. The number of players has to be the same on each side of the deal. So there can't be a 2 for 1 trade. It'd have to be 1 for 1, or 2 for 2 etc.

3. The full salaries travel with the player. So whoever trades for someone like Sabathia would have to inherit all $23 million of salary.

If anyone is screwed on pitching right now' date=' I'm willing to trade a pitcher for a good infielder[/quote']

Including Felix?

I'm sorry dude, but I think that it's kind of funny that it would literally be the very next pick taken. Granted, I'd rather have that happen than to have it be the pick JUST BEFORE you pick again. That'd be even more annoying.

Well, I lost the two pitchers I wanted this round. I really like the Scherzer pick, and while there are concerns about Anderson's arm, he has such high upside. So I'm forced to go with choice number three.

I like this idea a lot. Adds an entirely new dimension to this thing.

Nice pick. Floyd's WAR was higher than I thought it would be. Given his FIP the last 2 seasons, Floyd is either a bit unlucky or a bit of an underachiever. I happen to think both apply. Still, as 4th starters go you've got a dandy.

I also like the idea of the open trade window.

Plus it makes teams more flexible. A team could forget about someone and draft someone else and decide to trade later, and teams that are well over the salary cap won't be completely screwed because they can trade to get under the cap. I doubt that many trades will happen right away, but I think that the right thing to do would be to open the floor for such behaviour. If enough people support it then I'll make a draft trading thread and negotiations could begin.

One question. Why are you opposed to the idea of teams eating salaries of the players they trade (e.g. I trade CC and continue to pay for half of his contract)? That makes it even more realistic, and allows teams to get more creative.

Thanks. He has been consistent the past two years, and based on the reasons you gave, I'm hopeful his numbers improve in 2011.

True, but that makes it a lot harder to account for when it comes to totalling up the salaries for the salary cap (especially if someone that picks up Sabathia from you at a reduced rate, then flips him in another trade and with further salary eaten) It's just a lot harder to track, and I don't think that all of the people in the redraft would be prepared for something like that.

In addition (and Dipre points this out) having people eat some salary would defeat the purpose of the salary cap to begin with. If someone gets CC Sabathia and doesn't have to pay all of his salary, they could get a $23 million talent for less, and would have players that would normally be over the salary cap, yet somehow be under the cap due to someone else eating some salary.

In my ideal world, I'd love to have people be able to eat salary, trade draft picks, do 2 for 1 trades etc, I just think that it gets hard to track after a while, and not the kind of thing for a casual redraft.
