Where does Pedey rank all time among Boston second basemen?

Maybe an odd thought with random timing, but I'm going through Sox history in my mind and I can't honestly think of very many really good second basemen in Sox history. Certainly not any in my lifetime -- Reed was pretty good, but "pretty good" is where he left it, and other than him, when we have had decent second basemen they tended to be journeymen signed to short term deals.

I mean maybe you could go back into the 40's looking for a second baseman of that caliber, but I think you have to go at least that far back. In a team with this much history I'd be hard pressed to call him the best 2B of all time, but frankly the more I look at our history the less I'm impressed by his competition. 2B has been an unaccountably weak position for the Red Sox historically for some reason.

So who have we had, as Red Sox second basemen*, who compares favorably with the guy we have right now?

*"Second basemen" as defined by that's the position they played most for us, and they played there at least 3 seasons as a full time starter for the Red Sox.

EDIT: Yeah, I was fumbling around for the name of "that guy in the 40's" and I finally remembered Bobby Doerr's name. Knew he was there, just forgot the moniker. And anyay, I don't think Pedey really compares that unfavorably with Doerr. YMMV, of course.

I saw Doerr play at Fenway when I was a kid. Doerr was my dad's favorite player. Doerr was very smooth around 2B, and a power hitter in a power lineup. Dimaggio-Pesky-Williams-Stephens-Doerr. Batted 5th.

As someone familiar with playing 2B in my time, I think Pedroia is the best I've seen in a Red Sox uniform.I did not see Eddie Collins. Pedroia is better at 2b than anyone ever thought he would be. He needs 6-8 more prime years, and he will be in the HOF. Just a great ballplayer. The Red Sox MVP. Their Jeter. They stayed in contention last year until he got hurt.
