Lol @ the greatest comeback argument.

I'm so happy right now, but to make my life perfect:

1) The Yanks lose to the Rangers.

2) CLiff Lee signs with Texas.

3) The Sox re-sign V-Mart and trade for A-Gon/re-sign Beltre (or even better, both)

4) The Sox fix the bullpen.

Oh baseball Gods, smile upon these simple requests!

Hopefully the baseball gods are asleep right now

You do realize in terms of ERA+' date=' that that's relatively small, right? I could see you calling the Red Sox "world better" in pitching if the Yanks' ERA+ was like 80 or something, but that's 28. For example, in 2001, Curt Schilling's ERA+ was 157, while his teammate Randy Johnson's was 188. Johnson's ERA was 2.48 to Schilling's 2.98, a half run difference only. So how is that "world's better"?[/quote']

a half run IS a significant difference

typical Yankee fan , trying to dimish what the Red Sox did , that has ONLY happened ONCE in MLB history

anyway you slice it , 0-3 dosent compare to 1-3

UNREAL. Uhhhhh....ummmm....some NYY fans :dunno::blink::dunno:

You're still acting like I said the Red Sox didn't have as good a rotation. I've admitted they had a better front of the rotation to win the short series. I just wish people would stop saying the Yanks were outmatched in pitching so much. The difference wasn't that huge' date=' especially in the first 3 games of that series.[/quote']

Once the Sox found a way to get to the Yanks pen in Game 4 / Game 5 they were clearly the favorites. Game 6 you on Schilling on the mound and the Yankees didn't have a Game 7 starter, thats why it was 8 - 0 after 2 innings.

At the time I thought that the Sox had the better pitching staff top-to-bottom' date=' and that the Yankees were the team to beat. The Sox had the better head to head record that season, but the Yankees won the division, on top of the fact that the Yankees so dramatically beat the Sox the previous postseason. They were both very comparable to each other that year, but to me despite Boston's pitching advantage they were still looked at as the underdog coming into the series, and that was supported when they went down 3-0, making their incredible comeback that much more amazing (or devastating, if you're a Yankee fan). I don't think that the Yankees' advantage as the "favorite" was that dramatic though, as they were both very competitive all season.[/quote']My recollection is that the Sox were actually favored to win each of the final 4 games of that 2004 ALCS Series.

The Red Sox had Derek Lowe (90 ERA+ in 2004) pitching on two days rest. At the time, you could say that neither team had a starter, and only in hindsight do you only say that about the Yankees.

With that being said, I agree. I thought the Red Sox would win the series beforehand. I thought the Yankees would win it after Game 2 (and after Games 3 and 4), but then I thought the Sox would pull if off after Game 5.

It's significant, but not "massive" as was earlier said. Half a run isn't "worlds better", which is the point. Massive, or worlds difference is like if the Red Sox had a 3.5 ERA vs the Yanks' 5+ ERA, or something like that. Half a run is not that huge a gap.

Nick Swisher sick of Cliff Lee questions

By Andrew Marchand

ESPNNewYork.com

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Yankees right fielder Nick Swisher wants to face Cliff Lee in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series, but he is sick of talking about him. Swisher cannot stand hearing another question asked about Lee.

With the Yankees facing Texas Rangers starter Colby Lewis in Game 6, Swisher did not take kindly to a reporter asking teammates a couple lockers down about Lee.

"You guys are talking about Cliff Lee?" said Swisher out loud in a room full of reporters. "[Expletive], who cares?"

As he walked off, Swisher said, "I can't wait to hit against his [behind]."

Later, when asked about saying this out loud with reporters present, Swisher cut off a question when the words "Cliff Lee" were uttered.

"I'm not talking about Cliff Lee," Swisher said. "I don't give a [expletive]."

Lee is 3-0 with a 1.88 ERA in three postseason starts the last two years.

Swisher vocalized annoyance among many of the Yankees in the clubhouse leading into this series when they were constantly asked about Lee before Game 1 even though Lee wasn't starting until Game 3.

Swisher going off the Cliff?

By Wallace Matthews

Major props to colleague Andrew Marchand for getting a rise out of Nick Swisher on what is rapidly becoming his least favorite topic of discussion: Rangers' ace Cliff Lee. But this is not the first time that talking abut Lee has sent Swisher over the Cliff. After last Saturday's Game 2 here, Swisher was deluged with questions about Lee in advance of his Game 3 start at Yankee Stadium. After the waves of reporters had dispersed, I overheard Swisher say to one of my colleagues, "If one more guy asks me about Cliff Lee, I'm gonna punch him right in the (bleeping) mouth.''

Since I've never been able to pass up an invitation like that, I immediately walked over to Swisher and asked, "So what about Cliff Lee?''

Swisher wheeled around with murder in his eyes, and then stopped and laughed. "Please, ask me about him after the game,'' he said, "Ok, bro?''

OK.

I expect Hughes to be much better in game 6, and I expect the Yankees to kick Colby Lewis like a bag of trash. Game 7 should be very interesting, but the Rangers with Cliff Lee have the advantage. Sorry Swisher. Blame your idiot manager for the way he bungled the rotation for this series.

I expect a Rangers choke like move just like the Rays but taking the series. The fact the series should be over bothers me. Anyways I see the complete opposite of what you see. I say Lewis has a decent game and the Rangers offense will explode like always.

Yankees should have this one in the bag, I don't see Colby Lewis keeping this offense from scoring this time around, Hughes should have a better game, if not they have Wood ready to come in the 5th and CC/Mo to close it out.

That's what you've been saying all series. I thought this was gonna be a 4-1 romp by your Yankees.

Last I checked, the Yankees are very, very fortunate that they weren't swept. Don't count your chickens.

FYI , aside from Cano , the Yankees offense has been crap lately

and I hope CC does make an appearance , he's been shaky

The offense has been crap lately, although Game 5 was a nice team turnaround. We'll see. I have no idea how tonight should work out. If Hughes throws his game, we're winning. But we know he is just as likely to get shelled as he is to dominate

Jeter has been hitting well too, but when you're 3rd and 4th hitters aren't contributing its going to hurt your team.

They had several good scoring opportunities in the games they lost, but didn't get timely hits. (aside from G3)

Sabathia's and Hughes poor performances in G1 and G2 is most likely due to the fact that they were pitching on extra rest, which has been shown to affect them negatively.

The rangers might get tight in this game 6.They better not have the mindset that Lee is pitching is game 7 and we will be ok.I expect a good close game.

Sabathia was not effective in game 5 either nor VS the twins

Not effective in Game 5?

Sabathia's offspeed pitches dominated the Rangers all game. Texas did not put one of Sabathia's 44 offspeed pitches in play, and they struck out five times against them - all on sliders. It marked the first time this season an opponent did not put a single offspeed pitch in play against Sabathia. With the Rangers collecting all 11 of their hits against Sabathia on fastballs, his offspeed offerings, combined with the Yankees offense, were enough to get Sabathia a win.

Sabathia's offspeed stuff in Game 5: 44 pitches, 17 swings, 10 misses, 5 strikeouts, no balls in play.

With runners in scoring position, Sabathia turned to his offspeed pitches, with 19 of his 34 pitches with RISP being of the offspeed variety. Sabathia's three strikeouts with runners in scoring position were all with sliders. Throwing offspeed pitches with runners in scoring position made his fastball more effective, as the Rangers were 1-for-8 total against Sabathia with RISP.

He wasn't "effective" in terms of having best stuff yesterday. In 6 long innings he allowed 11 hits, and frequently fell behind hitters because he could not locate most of his pitches. However, in the immortal words of Rangers manager Ron Washington, the Rangers had Sabathia bended, but he did not break. He did not walk any batters, and allowed just two extra base hits. In this way he was able to scatter baserunners over his 6 innings and allow just 2 runs.

If that performance wasn't effective, what do you call it?
