Joe Girardi is one of the worst strategic managers in baseball. Right up there with Gardy and Manuel.
In a short series, when a team hands you a gift like the Rangers did in game 1, the recipient of the gift almost always wins the series. It"s a huge advantage to have a game handed to you. Despite that, Girardi is doing everything he can to give away this series.

The Rangers have played much better than I thought they would. After game 1, I was certain that they would blow up in a close game. The Yankees on the other hand do miss Damon and Matsui, if for no other reason than their ability to work the pitch count. One or two long ABs last night could have chased Lee from last night's game after 6 innings. The same goes for the first two games. They really miss those guys.

I'd say you could put Ron Washington in that list too of crappy managers, at least for strategy.

Burnett in game 4 could be Girardi's second big mistake in this series. If CC goes tonight' date=' you also have him for game 7. Burnett could go in game 5 and Pettitte on 3 days rest and Hughes on full rest would be available for game 6.[/quote']

Burnett has a much better chance of beating Hunter as opposed to Wilson. Even if CC starts and wins tonight, there's very little chance that Burnett is going to be able to win Game 5 against CJ Wilson. The goal is to go back to Texas up 3-2, not down 3-2.

They worked out some at bats but not enough as he had 108 pitches through 7 and was going to come out for the 9th if the Rangers did not score.

I have a very difficult time believing that AJ, who struggles with his command all the time, is going to come out sharp after having two and a half weeks off.
Posted
Yeah I have very little faith in AJ, he has been horrid this season. He had a 80 pitch simulated game last week which didn't go to well, hitting two of his own team mates with the ball. Hopefully he can manage to string together a decent start, he has a chip on his shoulder. This Yankees offense needs to start producing. Tex, A Rod, Swisher are 3/34 combined in this series, that just won't cut it. If they can't score against Hunter tonight I doubt they will the rest of this series. These next 3 games are critical, Lee will be extremely difficult to beat if it drags on to Game 7.

If Burnett pitches well and they get the w it would erase his crappy season.Thats the beauty of playoff baseball.Something tells me he will pitch well.I hope i am wrong.

I have an abysmal feeling about tonight. I hope Moselely starts warming after AJ's first pitch. We get down 3 and he better be pulled. We cannot lose tonight.

Well you had a good feeling about last night (which was completely unjustifiable lol), so maybe this bodes well. However, I obviously agree.

I expect Girardi to have the bullpen warming up if he sees anything that might put the game out of hand.I also expect him to use Mariano for 2 innings tonight if they have a lead after the 7th inning.

Game 1 and game 3 were "must wins" for the Rangers. Finally the NYY are in a "must win" situation.

Yeah AJ will be on a short leash, they can't let him give up 5+ runs

A game 7 against Lee is decidedly in the Rangers favor. If this thing goes to game 7, we are in trouble. We must now win the next 3. Tonight will be the toughest.

Yes' date=' he did. Remember, there were 2 Stone's at UMass. One at Lowell who retired and another at Amherst.[/quote']

But you played at Lowell, correct? I don't know follow any A-10 baseball, but I saw Gedman's kids play there. I played against his brother when he was at Lowell, switch hitting C/3B. He was solid, but his swing sucked just like his big brother's.

Just hope AJ doesn't pull something out of his arse and pitch the game of his life. NY does need to win the next 3, but I don't think they can. But then again, anything can happen in the play offs.

GO RANGERS!

I have a feeling he will give them a "quality start" tonight and allow them to end up winning the game.

Can't watch where I am, but I do have Gameday. Looks like Burnett is throwing meat to start the game. Lots of pitches splitting the plate.
