True, but they had to know the basic numbers going into the trade. I wonder if Spier isn't right and this is all about waiting on the extension to play with the luxury tax. If that's the case they are playing with fire and it could come back to bite them.

Greetings from the Miami International Airport, where connecting from the Dominican Republic to Orlando means going though immigration, baggage claim, customs and security. Loads of fun.

 

There is a 2 p.m. deadline for a contract extension for Adrian Gonzalez. No news on a deal yer. But keep these things in mind:

 

• The Sox can still go ahead with the deal without an extension. But they would have to have a strong indication that a deal can get done.

 

• Waiting to announce the extension until after Opening Day could help save money on the luxury tax. That's what happened with Josh Beckett last year.

 

• Or they could just make a deal now and get it over with.

 

As information becomes available, we'll keep you posted.

That's not the point, you bumbling idiot.

 

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that the impasse is due to trying to insert an injury clause in the deal because they found something they disliked in his shoulder. If they give in, trade for the guy, sign him to a massive extension, and he gets injured and becomes unprodoctive, you'll be the first dumb-ass running around saying: "I told you all this FO doens't know what their doing, they shouldn't have gone trough with the trade" (errors used to give the sense of an actual post created by you).
