It's sad to even hear Prince Fielder as a option for the 2nd best franchise in MLB history.

I recommend Zoloft for the sadness....and other issues.

Excuse me?

Are we talking about the same Prince Fielder? Because the one i'm talking is a 26-year-old first baseman with a .919 career OPS and 192 Home Runs.

There is something about you that just screams "troll". You seem eerily familiar to that "Fire_Theo" character that was banned a couple years ago.

It's BOY....again.

Then who is Republican4Life38? They share a similar posting style, and are both on the same "ABSOLUTE MAX!!!" level on the annoyance chart. Maybe one and the same BOY?

There have been so many names, I'm not even sure if BOY was the first, but it seems to be the one that stuck around the longest.

Oh hi there, Mr. Troll. Actually, since i'm not sure you're a troll or just a teeny bit on the mentally retarded side, i'm going to make this a "for dummies" post:

Baseball for dummies:

Baseball fun game, i explain:

1)Pitcher throw ball to hitter.

2) Hitter try to hit ball with wooden bat (being fat is not a problem to hitting ball)

3) Guys with pretty gloves try to catch ball, if they can't, hitter gets a "hit".

Prince Fielder fat, but he can hit, and he can field his position at least little bit, and he could play DH (a position in baseball where you hit but don't field, so no pretty glove).

I hope you understood, through the use of simpler language, the fact that Prince Fielder is, while below average defensively a great hitter, and a good ballplayer. Don't give me that "fat f***" crap, if he can get it done with the stick and fake at 1st until he transitions to DH, bring him on.

I guess if you have power you can make all the errors and strikeout all you want.

Again factor in the strong hold of the team. The rotation. So your going to put a weak fielder (no pun attended) at the corner with Lowrie at the other corner and another one of the boy wonders gaffes at short? Sounds like swiss cheese to me.

We allow and encourage well-thought out opinions, which you have presented none of. What you have presented is an endless stream of stupidity that's making me lose brain cells at a pace unheard of in the history of humanity.

If you want to criticize the FO, fine, but please, do so with a modicum of logic and avoid unabashed stupidity.

Example of a well-thought out post criticizing the FO: "Well i believe it was a mistake to let Jason Bay go seeing how Mike Cameron got injured this year, which is to be expected with a player his age. Bad move by the FO".

Example of a stupid post that only serves to lower the collective IQ of the board: Everything you've posted thus far.

Catch my drift?

Anyways, i'm done with you. You are either an idiot or a troll and i'm too busy getting ready to eat a heart-clogging steak to occupy my mind with you. Farewell, good sir.

It does raise the question-- Is Fielder really worth 100 million more than Adam Dunn?

Did you read the prior posts? We were talking about options the FO could pursue should the Gonzales deal not become a reality, and Fielder, who is a damn good ballplayer in his own right, came into the conversation. Please DFTT.

Of that entire page of comments, that seemed to be the only one relevant to any discussion, so I went with it.

That don't make it right. Specially if you're feeding the guy with "Extra-strength troll steroids"

You wrote a half-page response to the troll, and when I simply tried to move the conversation along, you're saying I'm feeding? That's just silly.

They were right in the thick of it last year until Pedroia and Youks got hurt--even with a makeshift outfield and Beckett mailing it in. How did they do it? Well, Buchholz emerged as an all-star pitcher and Beltre had another one of his rare contract years. He and VMart were enough RHd power to replace Bay.

Epstein has let VMart go. So he either signs Beltre or he finds another RHD power hitter. That means Werth, or maybe Upton. Or maybe they just go get AdGon. But that makes them a bit heavy on the LHd side. So it just might be Werth--unless he signs Beltre. The latter depends on whether Beltre wants to move to the West coast. They need another RHD power bat--whether it's Werth, Beltre or Upton.

Crawford doesn't seem to fit--not unless they trade Ellsbury. My guess is Werth would like to hit in Fenway. Maybe some suction there.

That's a question worthy of further exploration, no?

Since 2006 (per BB Ref):

Dunn: 787 G, 3266 PA

Fielder: 677 G, 3386 PA

Dunn: 99 Runs Above Replacement (RAR); 20 RAR/YR; 10.2 WAR Total

Fielder: 152 Runs Above Replacement (RAR); 30 RAR/YR; 15.6 WAR Total

oWAR (Wins above replacement, without concern for fielding. Offensive measure)

Dunn: 17.0 Total; 3.5 AVG

Fielder: 19.4 Total; 3.9 AVG

REGULAR STATS:

Overall

Dunn: .252/.378/.524/.902, 1407 TB, 132 OPS+

(Per-162): 41 HR/105 RBI/ 292 TB

Fielder: .279/.386/.536/.922, 1555 TB, 140 OPS+

(Per-162): 38 HR/107 RBI/ 316 TB

I don't think those would justify $100m more, but Fielder being young and very consistent in his own right will probably warrant a bigger payday.

Dunn is really bad in the field, and that's where his reduced value comes in. If either he or Fielder would be the DH, their offensive differences won't be worth a huge difference in pay. If they are hiring a DH, Fielder is who I would prefer if $$ is not an issue.

Adrian Gonzalez is my preference above both, obviously
