i understand they're trained to cut off the run at the plate and that he did what he was supposed to do. i still think he could have easily reached down and tagged the runner before the run scored if he had time to throw across the diamond before the run scored
... or maybe he forgot that there were two outs.:dunno:

he may have either forgot how many outs there were or he thought it would have looked really embarassing if he whiffed on the tag and the run scored

95 pitches and Buchholz is done? Tito is running up the white flag.

i don't have a problem with him not extending his young ace beyond 100 pitches in a meaningless game

i said a while ago that it would take a miracle for us to make the playoffs

Fair enough. I thought you were still holding out hope. I'm still keep a close eye on every Red Sox's game lol.

i was holding out hope prior to the rays series but even before that series i had said it would take a miracle and that i doubted even the '98 yankees could make up 6 games in a month if 4 of their starting position players were on the dl and their #2 and #3 starters were having the worst years of their career

if we were healthy that would be one thing but there's no way we're going to beat the best 2 teams in the al in the head to head series that we'd need to win in order to have a chance

When the Red Sox won the Friday game, and pulled to within 4.5 of both the Yankees and the Rays, I was a bit worried. Even with the injuries, if Lackey and Beckett had gotten hot, they could have turned it around and made things interesting. At this point it would definitely take a miracle, but I'm not guaranteeing anything for the Yankees just yet.

when we made all those mistakes in the second game and then lost the third game, that was the season. it pretty much put us in a position where we would have had to sweep the rays and/or yankees with half our lineup on the dl which wasn't going to happen

Ortiz is just horrendous against LHP. Might as well just stay home today
Sox need to get a good right handed DH complement to Ortiz. 25 of Ortiz's 27 HRs are against righties. If he had been just average against lefties, he'd have about half a dozen more.

Even so they can't live on Bard getting 4-6 outs 4 times a week.

i wouldn't be upset if we got a fulltime dh other than ortiz either

Not too many guys are as productive against righ handed pitching.

we only have 25 roster spots. can we really spare one for a guy who can't play defense or hit lefties?

Yes. As long as he is productive and no obvious upgrades are available.

Atchison is a piece of crap. I cannot wait for this season to be over and HOPE Theo can f***ing do something this off-season unlike during this season where he sat on his thumbs and finger-blasted his lower sigmoid colon while other teams made moves to increase their chances of winning down the stretch.

Nice job by McDonald after Danks was having trouble locating...he swings at the 1st pitch.

Is it me or is the crowd as lifeless as the Sox seem to be today? These quitters have no chance of winning this game.

stfu didn't you say you were done for the year? Or am I lying?

i think that's the issue

And it's not an insignificant issue. He may not seem to do well against lhp and he is sort of average at first when he does play, what other DH are more productive?
