With the way that Overbay has hit at Fenway Park throughout the years, he could be a good FA pickup, moving Youkilis to third base. Overbay is also an excellent fielder.

Don't like the Idea of moving Youk to third. He is much better at first. If we where to do that I would much rather sign Pena, or Konerko if we look for a righty. Would stay far away from Lee. don't mind Overbay. Would prefer Pena's power. Rizzo is the guy I would like to see a few years from now.

He will not get here and be a force for about 2-3 more years. What do we do until then to be competitive with the Yanks. Pena will hit about .220 and K all the time. I don't want any part of that. Konerko is old and slow. I'm not thrilled with him either, but I'd prefer him to Pena.

Absolutely right Rizzo won't be here for at least two years. Probably three. So we will need to sign somebody or trade for them. Not exactly alot of options to choose from on the free agent market this season. Resigning Beltre and Youk staying at first is the best option. Problem is he is having an excellent season which makes dealing with Boras alot more difficult. If you move Youk to third here is your list for first base

Garret Atkins (31)

Lance Berkman (35) - 15 million club option 2mm buyout

Wilson Betemit (29)

Hank Blalock (30)

Russell Branyon (35) - 5mm mutual option

Jorge Cantu (29)

Frank Cantalnatto (37)

Adam Dunn (31)

Troy Glaus (34)

Wes Helms (35)

Eric Hinske (33)

Aubrey Huff (34)

Mike Jacobs (30)

Nick Johnson (32) - 5.5mm mutual option with 250k buyout

Paul Konerko (35)

Adam Laroche (31) - 7.5mm mutual option with 1.5mm buyout

Derek Lee (35)

Doug Mientkiewicz (37)

Kevin Millar (39)

Lyle Overbay (34)

Carlos Pena (33)

Albert Pujols (31) - 16mm club option with 5mm buyout

Fernando Tatis (36)

Chad Tracy (31)

Ty Wigginton (33)

Take your pick.

I'd be happier with a Dunn signing if it was to replace Papi rather than Beltre, but Dunn has made it clear he'd rather not DH so that may not happen.

Either way, sure, bring on Dunn, and if you can, bring on another guy too. Dunn can suck defensively in a couple different positions, so bringing him in doesn't limit you that much.

C- Iannetta/Saltalamacchia

1B- Youk

2B- Pedroia

SS- Scutaro/Lowrie

3B-Beltre

LF- Werth

CF- Ellsbury/Cameron

RF- Crawford

DH- Ortiz

Get Rid of Drew Sum how best thing for the team.He usually plays well for a month out of the season the best and then sucks the rest.

Sp is fine

1 -5 one of the best in baseball

bullpen needs work delcarmen time in Boston running out.add a few rp and were fine

Sorry, no way we're going to that much effort to get rid of Drew when his contract just expires after next year. And we already have his heir lined up, so no way we sign two big name outfield FA's this offseason.

The most they'd do is maybe waive him next August and play Kalish if Drew isn't getting it done.

Ahh Drew haters. What would we ever do without them.

No seriously, I'm curious. Might be an interesting experience.

^^ C'mon man, English.

Otherwise, I agree with Jacko that Werth would be a beast at Fenway. He definitely would be a solid addition to the team. I think Beltre is likely gone after this season, which I think might work out OK, with VMart/Youk on the corners, Salty behind the plate. Not sure about all this Iannetta talk.

As much as I like Crawford, I'm doubtful on the Sox picking him up. Save that coin, put it in the bullpen and possibly in a savings account for AGonz in 2011. Heh heh.

Drew? Leave him alone. I like the guy, IMHO he's one of the better AL right fielders in the game.

Can anybody refresh me on our contracts with Beckett and Dice? I'd like to see a SP in the offseason mix too, although I'm not sure that's on Theo's radar, and I have no idea what our commitments to Beckett and Dice are and how that all plays out.

He has been very mediocre this season in all offensive categories.

No, he hasn't.

He has been only a bit above average, though.

I have not looked for a couple of weeks, but as I recall, his BA and OBP were down about 20 points from career averages while his SO were up.

Also, he has yet to go on one of his streaks where he caries the team.

I'm not raging on the guy. Just stating my observations.

Apparently, Damon has a no trade clause to the Red Sox. Feeiing is that he will waive it. I think he'd be a good addition. Slip him right into the lead off spot and put Scutaro #2.

Right now, there are ten right fielders that have a higher WAR than Drew, and most of them cost less. Sure, he's above average defensively and offensively, but when he sits 20% of every season, that hurts his value considerably. He's pretty much untradeable right now, so the Sox are just going to have to deal with it until he's gone at the end of 2011. But then again, he's been the only consistent piece in this outfield this year, and he's the sort of player who exceeds expectations in contract years, so he's worth holding onto, maybe he'll yield a draft pick.

Beckett was signed for a 4/68 year deal back in April. Dice-k has two more years.

Why not' date=' right?[/quote']

Exactly. At the least, it would be a good story. I still like the guy.

But, how many LHH oF do the Sox need? And who goes the other way or gets demoted?

I don't see getting Damon as being a difference making move.

Likely corresponding moves

Y. Navarro to Pawtucket

B. Hall to infield

You're right, Sox have to make up 6 games in lose column with only 30 something games remaining without the help of Pedroia and Youkilis
