Their attendence is much better than it was 4 years ago. It's not because the games are played in the comfort of AC.

 

I know it has absolutely nothing to do that. It has more to do with Florida is just not a baseball state.

The Pirates are ahead of both the Marlins and the Rays in attendance percentage this season, and I've been to Pirates games this season, and the seats are usually less than half-filled. And the Pirates suck.

Winning doesn't necessarily correlate with attendance, but it doesn't hurt.

 

In all fairness, you can get into a Pirates game for the change in your ash tray.

Actually, I personally would have been really happy to give up Casey Kelly for Downs. Theo's such an idiot, why the hell wouldn't he give up a top-5 prospect for a 34-year-old lefty reliever.

Riddle me this...if Lester wasn't coming out for the 9th....why the f*** did Theo NOT run for Lowell? I understand not breaking up VicMart/Lester after 8 shutout innings...but if he is not coming back you make the move for a pinch runner... Thankfully that didn't bite us.

We will take care of the Rays ourselves.. Do you think that ANEMIC offense and STRUGGLING, injury-riddled staff will be able to win any of the games the Sox play? The MAY be able to beat Beckett...if Price is pitching..other than that...with Pedey coming back, the Red Sox are a much better team than the Rays at this juncture.

Theo isn't the manager. The commentators talked about the depleted bench, but I don't know who was avaliable to run. I don't know Lowrie's avaliability for this game.

 

EDIT: If Lowrie isn't avaliable, the only person avaliable to run is Darnell McDonald. I guess that Terry was worried about the possibility of extras with no one on his bench? Although in that situation, I think I still would've pinch-run for Lowell, personally.

You never, ever give up a top young pitching prospect in your organization for an old relief pitcher. If Kelly isn't trade bait for something really meaningful, he projects to be the next Lester or Buchholz or Pap or Bard. He'll also be cost-controlled for years, just like these guys are. Kelly, if he continues to progress as people expect, will be treated the same way the Lesters and Buchs were when Theo was unwilling to move them for free agent and mid-season acquisitions. Aren't you glad now that the Sox brass correctly assesses and values its in-organization pitching talent? Theo's not the idiot here.

It's annoying that Kelly Shoppach picked today to get his first clutch hit of the season, or we'd have likely picked one up on the Rays today.

 

Lester is a bona fide studly ace of epic proportions. Going out there and shutting down the top two offenses in baseball in his last two starts, giving up zero runs? Just outfreakingstanding.
