My point is the Twins have a better shot than the Sox to make the playoffs since the news of losing Youk for the year.

what pal was saying is that replacing offense at 1st base is much easier than replacing it at second base or catcher. backup 1b are in general much more productive players than backup middle infielders or catchers

we may be without youk but when we get pedroia back we'll be the healthiest that we've been since april. having youk out isn't as bad as having 2 outfielders and daisuke out or having beckett, buchholz, pedroia and v-mart out

 

as good as youk is, he isn't as valuable as 3 or 4 of our better players. and we've had 3 or 4 of our better players on the disabled list for most of the season

Just look at the way this season has gone. During the month of April, this team slumped badly. Ortiz looked horrible, VMart, and Drew were in rough shape, and Beltre couldn't make it past 1st base. In July, everyone was hurt. Half the season, this team has been underperforming, yet its #2 in runs scored, this team built on pitching and defense.

 

Replace Youk/McDonald/Hermida/ with Lowell/Ellsbury/Kalish, and I don't think you lose that much. Once Pedroia comes back, this team is back to being an elite offense.

I don't know how true it is. Abraham (sp?) mentioned today that the Sox want a left hand bat for platoon at 1st base and Kotchman was mentioned.

I didn't know this till now but Arencibia a rookie from the Jays had a hell of a debut. 2 home runs and went 4-5 amazing.
