Sounds like JA Happ is leading the prospect package headed to Houston and all that is needed is for Oswalt to waive his no trade.

I read also that Singleton could be the other major piece. I believe he is in High A ball, but looks to be a possible franchise type 1B, kid is raking this season for a .944 OPS. If that is the case Houston did well. Assuming they are dumping Oswalt's contract on the Phillies as well.

Their owner is such an idiot. He could have moved Berkman last yr when he could have had a better return. And this yr, he doesnt want to part with Brett Myers. They are still trying to run with their world series team from 4 yrs ago, that is either retired, old, or on another team. They need to rebuild

Ya I just read that too. With the Astros picking up a good chunk of the check.

The identities of the other two players going to Houston remain unknown, but ESPN's Jayson Stark says the Astros have pushed hard for minor league first baseman Jonathan Singleton. Stark has an unconfirmed rumor from a strong source that the Astros offered to pay $12MM to the Phillies in the deal.

I wonder where the Phillies farm system ranks after the Cliff Lee' date=' Roy Halladay, and Roy Oswalt deals.[/quote']

They got a decent haul from the Mariners for Lee. That helped restock. Phillies system was fairly deep. It's not what it was, but it's not empty.

Rosenthal tweets that he hears Singleton is not in the deal. Rosenthal believes the Phillies are getting less than $12MM, guessing a few million less.

How much is left on Oswalts deal?

Oswalt plans to OK the deal, but it's not official yet, reports Stark. He adds that the Astros will be sending $11MM. Rosenthal tweets that Oswalt's 2012 option will not be exercised; he'll be compensated some other way. ESPN's Jerry Crasnick tweets of a rumor that speedy outfield prospect Anthony Gose may be in the deal. AOL FanHouse's Ed Price tweets that he's hearing Gose and Worley could be in the deal.

He has what like 5M left this season? Phillies are basically getting Oswalt for 1.5 years for 10M. That's actually not bad.

Actually, they got a terrible haul for Lee. Not even close to good. They got three pretty mediocre prospects, instead of Smoak+others or Montero+others.

Done deal from multiple sources,

The deal is done, tweets Rosenthal. Piecing this together, it appears the Astros send Oswalt and $11MM to the Phillies for Happ, Gose, and Villar, with the Phils potentially adding $1MM to Oswalt's buyout but not exercising his option.

I wonder if it would have been possible to have had Halladay, Lee, and Oswalt? They probably wouldn't have had Hamels, or much of a farm team, but with their lineup that's an instant spot in the World Series vs. the Yankees.

Teams like that suck for a reason. I haven't read much into it, but does he really want to keep Myers? As if they're even close to contending in the worst division in baseball, let alone the NL itself.

Just saw an interview with JA Happ after the trade. He looked slightly depressed.

I believe Gose was flipped for Brett Wallace, who was a top power prospect but has struggled this year.

Meanwhile, Edwin Jackson was just dealt for Daniel Hudson, who was ranked #66 on Baseball America's 2010 rankings, and David Holmberg, another prospect.

Seriously, wtf? Haren was traded for Saunders (a terrible pitcher who will get raises through arbitration) and two mid-level prospects. Oswalt got Happ and two other mid-level guys, although Wallace does have potential (but is not a top guy).

Are these teams losing a ton of value in prospects by asking for major league pitching? It's not like the Dbacks and Astros are close to contending, and getting (at best) #3 guys and foregoing potential star material won't get them any closer.
