alexspeier - The #redsox acquired Saltalamacchia in exchange for Chris McGuinness and Roman Mendez as well as a PTBNL and cash.

 

I think the plan almost has to be to turn Salty loose as our catcher next year. For good or bad this guy is gonna be our catcher for the next couple years.

Turpen freaking sucks.. C- prospect. He has a 7.36 ERA with runners on..always a great quality for a reliever.. not really a great K rate... Wow..didn't think we would give a pretty good reliever away when we need relievers. Theo f***ed us.. He is content to watch the Yankees make all the moves..and watch us finish 20 out. SEASON OVER.. Not a fan of losing Mendez, throws upper 90s and I believe he hit 99 in a start this year.

Ian Browe: Salty will report to Pawtucket so Kevin Cash era to continue at least a little longer.

Salty is definitely a next-year move anyway, whether he backs up V-Mart or plays in Pawtucket, so I'd rather get him his reps in Pawtucket.

I actually like getting Salty..this kid can hit and I expect Magadan will really help him.. He is a big, switch-hitting catcher who Chipper Jones said..at one time.. "If you like McCann..wait till you see Salty" He is a mess behind the dish but has started to hit the s*** out of the ball at AAA.

Would love to see all the main dogs pack it in for the rest of the year (phantom DL trips) and have the front office lose their coveted sellout streak. Ratings have already plummeted. They threw in the towel today, I wont be going to any more games this season....why should we waste our money on a dead product that is outrageously overpriced? Thats like buying a copy of Madden 2005 but paying full price.

For what it's worth, Soxprospects had Mendez as our 21st best prospect, and McGuiness as our 30th best prospect.

 

Outside of Vitek and Brentz, that's not counting anyone in the 2010 draft.

I think we got hosed by Texas, but at least we didn't give up Buchholz for Saltalamacchia as they wanted a while ago. And, however bad this trade may have been, it's nowhere near as bad as the Gagne deal. Texas still owes us for that one.

This season though.......they didnt invest into the rest of the season, so why should intelligent fans. If anything, it will be the pink hat retards still showing up wondering why Varitek isnt pitching or how many home runs Tim Wakefield has hit this year.

Dude is just bummed, that's all. I am a little disappointed too. Someone described today's trade action above as "Nothing for nothing." I agree. Not the kinda of action you'd expect from a team eyeing the wildcard.

If you needed this trade to figure out that the season wasn't going anywhere you weren't a very knowledgeable fan.

 

I just hope we get to see a lot of young guys to give the rest of this season some real meaning and give us something to watch. I wouldn't mind if guys who weren't going to be here at the end of the year were cut loose and sent to contenders "as a courtesy."
