A career .260 hitter is not "five tool."

I want the guy as a FA, and I'd be willing to trade a reasonable price for the guy, but I'm not breaking the bank for him. He's exactly the kind of guy that gets overpaid and regretted.

Yes I can. So far' date=' that platoon has worked. Until that changes, its not worth trading away prospects for a player that will be splitting time once Ellsbury gets back.[/quote']

Werth would be splitting time? Glad you're not the manager because that's retarded.

Quite misleading, Dojji, if you look at his numbers from the last 4 years when he came into his own:

.277/.374/.497

Power, speed, cannon in right, gets on base. What's not to like?

Don't really think of a .270-.280 hitter as "five tool" either. That's a pretty exacting standard since you have to be really good at all tools.

Like I said I'm in favor of bringing the guy in, but I don't think we should overstate the case either.

So you're benching a player that's hitting .285 for a player who is hitting .282?

And calling a guy with 4 stolen bases this year a speed threat?

20 SB the past two years. Drew is often referred to as a five-tool player yet doesn't have huge SB numbers

Are you really advocating splitting time between Cameron and Werth?

.283/.341/.417 (.758 OPS)

.282/.365/.512 (.878 OPS)

I don't know why he's stealing less this year, but he stole 20 bases each of the last 2 years, and his 88% success rate is nothing to sneeze at.

I'm saying that platooning the guys available is a much better option than giving away top 5 prospects for a guy who is going to be available in five months again anyway. I don't get what's so unreasonable, or "retarded" about that.

I never said they should go after him right now. I was merely defending his value and saying that if the Sox acquired him it would be retarded to platoon him.

I don't considering "splitting time" the same thing as platooning, especially in the outfield where there is more rotation involved. But no matter what happens, the last thing this team is another unhappy veteran player on the bench.
