Its starting to become clear that he's having problems with the organization. I read one article that compared him to Nomar-- when key players spend their time sitting on the bench because of conflicts, the organization has no desire to keep them around.

You're reading too much into it.

Rib injuries can be nasty and they've misjudged his return once already, they're just playing it safe this time. I don't think there's any pressure to rush Ellsbury back anyway, it's not like we'll make the playoffs with or without him.

We lost a game last night 6-5. Our starting center fielder went 0-2 with two strikeouts in said game. Yes, there is pressure to rush Ellsbury back, when he's doing fine in Pawtucket and absolutely killing the ball there.

Yes yes yes, but the fact remains that ELLSBURY IS ON A REHAB ASSIGNMENT. If they thought he was ready to play HE WOULD NOT BE ON A REHAB ASSIGNMENT.

Whether or not you think Ellsbury should be in Boston THE PERSON YOU BLAME FOR HIM NOT BEING HERE IS NOT JACOBY ELLSBURY!

I was just looking at Bard's game logs and noticed he's only pitched one time in the last nine days.

I think it's a great move by the team to give the kid a much deserved break. He was on pace for a ridiculous amount of appearances for a second year player.

I saw that too ... good move and now he's rested for the Yankee's

they probly planned it that way

i agree. having him struggle due to fatigue or come down with an injury from overuse would be disasterous

It really sucks they had to use Papelbon in a game where they had a 5 run lead heading into the 9th right before a 4 game series with NY.

yup. at least okajima will be out for the series though

just out of curiousity, why are have we been running with 6 relief pitchers? wouldn't we be better served to have dustin richardson on the roster than, say, eric patterson?

are we saving patterson for a pinch runner if anyone gets on against mo or something?

I see 12 pitchers in the Sox staff, with Richardson replacing Okajima. Maybe you didn't count Wake?

Eric Patterson is listed as an IF and Hall as an OF, but I'm not sure why that is; it seems Patterson's played mostly OF and Hall's bounced around.

you're right, we do have 7 relievers. they haven't updated the depth chart in at least a week

What is up with MDC? He had such a great start to the season, then he completely fell apart, and now he has a 7 game scoreless streak. I don't know what to expect from him anymore.

He either stinks completely or he is stringing together a bunch of clean innings.

Like it or not, MDC is gonna be seeing a lot of appearances down the stretch run of the season. Bard can't pitch that 8th inninng set up role every game, and Papelbon sure as hell can't close out every game for the rest of the season. As shaky as MDC has been, hes the guy you gotta turn to when Bard can't go

I actually like MDC. Last year, he had a great start to the year, and fell apart when he started to pitch injured. The same thing happened this year, he was absolutely f***ing great this april/may, and then he sucked before and after his injury, and now he's got it back again.

MDC seems more of a mental issues then a physical one right now. Confidence probably got shook when he was getting tuned up while pitching injured. Hopefully he will find it again. He's young and has really good stuff. Although he can be infuriating to watch sometimes.

Being taken deep by the league's HR leader?

I like Felix, and I think he could start or set up, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

he looked pretty sharp. even the home run he gave up was on a pitcher's pitch

i'm not saying he's the next mariano or anything. i'm just saying it was an exciting appearance from him

He's a quality young pitcher but I honestly think he's wasted in the pen, I see him traded to a team that needs a lefty SP -- that's no small number of teams after all -- as part of a package for a big bat.

I could see a Doubront+Ellsbury package being a solid starting point for a Fielder deal.

So could I' date=' but I'd rather hold onto Ellsbury. His kind of speed is too hard to find.[/quote']

I know. I've always been an Ellsbury supporter. But if he can fetch a cornerstone bat like Fielder(all this is assuming the Sox can manage to extend Fielder, non of this is worth just 1 season), then I'd take it. Especially with Kalish showing a lot of promise. And if they felt inclined they could throw some money at Crawford to replace Ellsbury.

Uhoh, not this again! I argued that with Dojji for a few days, and he wasn't buying it.

He'll eat his way out of baseball like his dad did in his early 30's. I'm all for the concept of getting a big bat in here using Ellsbury as the bait.

Was he arguing the Boras angle?

From where I sit it looks as though the Brewers are looking at a 3-4 year window to contend with their current group. They just signed Hart and I have read they are trying to ink Weeks to an extension. Ellsbury may be getting more expensive, but he will fit nicely into their contention window.

Fielder was the name I was using because he is most talked about. He probably isn't my first choice either. He has to show he can drop some weight. I have the same concerns as you about him eating his way out of the league.

With the Padres success I don't see Agon being available this off season. They are gonna try and go again next year no matter what happens this year. He will only become available if they fall out next season.

Outside of those 2 I'm not sure who else there is to realistically dangle Ellsbury+prospects for.
