This seems to be getting caught up in the gamethreads, and due to its enormity, I figured I'd make its own thread...

For the good news...

Jorge Posada took BP and ran the bases today. He says he should be back within a week. Initially, he was thought to need a month off then go on a rehab stint. But with his return potentially in the 2.5 week range, he shouldnt need a rehab stint. Will be nice to get his bat back in the lineup, as he was OPS'ing over 1.000 on the season when he went down. It also allows us to ease him in via the DH spot and keep Cervelli at catcher. That kid has been dynamite defensively and proven to be a pest offensively.

David Robertson was listed as day-to-day and might be available today out of the pen

Now for the not so good news...

Alfredo Aceves has been unable to toss since he strained his back. He's had an MRI, but the results havent been shared with the public and the rumor going around the yankee press box (ie that troll Waldman who is a pretty bad source, but she said it nonetheless) is that he might require surgery.

Nick Johnson had his wrist surgery, which they say was successful. He should be back sometime in late July, although in what capacity I do not know. Whenever there is a wrist involved, the player typically takes over a yr to regain his prior form.

You should realize by now that Yankees bad injury news is good news on this forum. Please label it accordingly.

Derek Jeter left todays game with a tight hamstring. f***ing great

I'm not doctor, but it wasn't an injury that occurred while running (it tightened up after he got hit by a pitch there), so I'd imagine that it's not that serious. Additionally, he never went into the clubhouse, and was standing up on the dugout railing the entire time.

That isnt saying much. I think the Yankee bridge is suffering from the starters' endurance. The Yanks are second in the AL in IP/start at 6.33. With the 9th being Rivera's, not played (away loss) or out of commision, the Yankees really havent had a lot of high leverage middle innings that went to anyone but Joba. Also, I said before the season that Aceves was the glue of the pen, and he is proving that now. Aceves was adept last yr at being an any role kinda guy. When our closer was tired, Aceves could close. When our setup guy was struggling, Aceves would give him a breather. Without him, it's Joba or bust seeing as Girardi has almost no confidence in Robertson

If we play it right, we'll have Mitre face KC, Cleveland and Toronto before seeing Texas, then KC before Pettitte is expected back. That's about the only silver lining with losing an all star pitcher. This one will hurt

Pettitte out a month with a groin strain. Mitre will start in his place

Really?

I know you're busy washing bed pans, but in your spare time, could you explain what a groin

injury is?

Is that out a month then start baseball activity's or our a couple weeks and will be back pitching for the Yanks in a month?

Let's face facts. Andy is old and groin injuries can be very nagging injuries. This could be a big issue for the Yanks.

It very well could be a big issue. Cashman said he should be back in the Bronx in a month. My guess is that they give him a full 2 weeks off, then have him start throwing again with a rehab start prior to coming up. They MRI'd it and it was only a grade 1, so it isnt like it tore off the bone or anything. A younger player would be back in 15 days

shouldn't be a big deal if he's healthy in 4-5 weeks but if it lingers it could be a huge blow for the yankees if their best starter this year isn't 100% going into the playoffs

A grade 1 strain should take 2 weeks to heal. The Yankees are already giving a 4-5 week timetable. My guess is the Yankees wont let this thing linger. He's gonna be 100% when he takes the mound again

I'm pretty sure I'm the reason this injury occurred. Just finalized a trade last night sending Pettitte my way.

Pettitte had no problem with a bullpen today. He's gonna fly to Tampa after the sox series to throw a simulated game. If that goes well, he'll throw 2 rehab starts and be back in the Bronx by the end of the month.

And now Pettitte needs an MRI. The possibility exists that he's not coming back. Nice job by the Yankees not to address their pitching problems at the TDL.

pettitte's still having trouble throwing at full strength without pain. if he's not 100% by the end of the year, it will be hard for the yankees to replace their best starter this year

If the Yankees make the playoffs, there's a legitimate possibility that their starting rotation could consist of CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett, Javy Vazquez, and Dustin Moseley. Additionally, with the struggles of the offense, the problems in the starting rotation, and injuries to key players, Yankees fans who don't acknowledge the possibility of missing the playoffs are foolish.

Robbie Cano regressing has really hurt.

I don't think I'd call it foolish. In all honesty, most Red Sox fans aren't even that optimistic.

Right now, the Red Sox's rotation blows the Yankees' rotation out of the water. That alone scares me.

the only reason i haven't given up hope on the sox making the playoffs is becuase of the struggles and injuries that the yankees and rays are currently going through
