The Brewers have this nice kid. Killing the ball on offense, about average at controlling the running game. Wonder where they got him. Named George something.

He's had 60 plate appearances. We have this nice old-timer, who has about the same numbers in a similar amount of appearances, and he's actually doing it in, you know, not AAAA.

I like the thought of Ianetta. The price is going to have to come down it looks like though. Be something to monitor though. I could see a three team deal with V-Mart heading out somewhere.

I do not like the idea of trading Martinez. He is just starting to get hot and is the 2nd best hitting catcher in the game. I guess it would depend on what we got back in addition...but anything short of Franklin Morales, Ianetta, and more for a hitter like Martinez would be silly...

I have noticed that the Sox pitchers.. Dice, Clay, and Lester in particular have really been trying to hold the runners on. Even if it is just holding onto the ball...it helps. This was particularly evident with Clay holding Crawford on the other night. Clay threw over there a bunch of times, held the ball, stepped off the rubber.. Crawford looked like he was getting preturbed.. Hey, you don't like it? Then stop jumping around and stealing every time you get on base. I think the Sox as a staff have made a concerted effort to keep the opposing teams from running at will.. Martinez isn't going anywhere.. He is the type of hitter who can carry a team when he gets hot and is a switch-hitting catcher to boot. Signing him to a 5 year $80 mill contract is another issue all together.

I'd like for him to stay on as the DH/backup catcher. But if his asking price is too high then they should do their due diligence and find out how to get the most value for him. 5/80M seems a bit much for him. i would guess it will be something more like Posada's deal if he re-signs. If he hits the open market there is no telling.

This defensive catcher business is overplayed, and masks the real problem that Red Sox pitchers haven't been holding the runners on--except recently, which has stopped the free-basing.

I see VMart as adequate defensively, and the best hitting catcher after Mauer. I don't think a better defensive catcher who can't hit will be an improvement. Their problem is they are carrying Varitek, and that makes another catcher on the roster difficult. Especially with their fragile outfield.

I don't think he's a better hitter than Mcann.

Mcann career OPS+ 121

Martinez career OPS+ 120

or Posada.

If at this stage in their careers, you still honestly think Posada's a better hitter than Martinez, then i don't know what to tell you.

Posada is at the same stage as Varitek. He's a good hitter' date=' but the problem is staying healthy while hitting.[/quote']

That's about the size of it.

I like this, just not for 2010.

After that, I'd be fine w/ letting V-Mart go and trading for Ianetta.

Think the Rockies would do Kalish or Reddick for Ianetta straight?

No. They are said to be looking for premium talent in return. They could be part of a package though.
