What the f*** has this world come to when grown men are getting criticized for packing a lip on the field?

This better be a joke or sourced from The Onion or something.

Chewing tobacco is horribly disgusting, but they shouldn't tell the guys that do it that they aren't allowed to. It doesn't affect their performance on the field (like illegal drugs or alcohol during games would) and it doesn't affect anyone else (like smoking would). Let 'em burn a hole in their gums if they want to.

Neither does gambling on other games, but that's still illegal.

Well it certainly does when you bet on or against your own team.... and you know why the league is so insane about gambling. The Chicago Black Sox almost destroyed baseball. The ban is a good one and will exist for as long as baseball is played professionally.

Banning chewing tobacco (which is possibly the most disgusting thing on the planet) is Fascist.

I think you misinterpreted the meaning of "other games". I didn't need to read anything after the bolded because you misunderstood the context of my post.

I didn't misunderstand, I just skimmed it - I read gambling and stopped.

I still disagree with you. You can't have MLBP betting on MLB games whether they are directly involved or not. It destroys what pitiful integrity is left in the game.

For the record, I don't think that we disagree all that much. I still think that (most) gambling should be illegal and that it does destroy the integrity of baseball, and that there is little integrity left in baseball. I just brought gambling up as an example to prove that YOTN's reasoning for allowing dip is flawed. While I think that dip is unhealthy and downright repulsive, I believe that players should be allowed to do it in the big leagues. I was just pointing out that by YOTN's logic, gambling should also be allowed. I was attacking YOTN's argument rather than postulating that gambling should be legal.

Why is there currently so little integrity left in the game?

Start a new topic if you really want an answer.

Threads on this forum go off topic all the time, especially ones as insignificant as this one.

I guess you don't want an answer then.

Back on topic. Actually with as manipulative as Bud Selig is, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if this does pass.

For the people making the point that the kids are seeing this and will take after their idols as players on the field. Well, that's stupid, kids have parents for a reason, they are the intermediary between reality and TV.

If Dustin Pedroia and Josh Beckett want to pack missiles, let the men do as they wish.

Has anyone made that point in this thread? This is the first time that I'm even hearing of that point.
