As the Sox dig themselves into a bigger hole, Mike Cameron has been found to have an abdominal strain and will be going to the 15 day DL, Ellsbury is still hurt and Reddick has been called up for now.

In the last 5 seasons, Jermaine Dye has hit 27 or more home runs. He's had some decent seasons. He fell apart at the second half of last season but still performed pretty well overall. Based on reports, the Sox could probably get him for as low as anywhere 2-5 mill for one season, and are probably going to hit the salary cap anyway. Dye is desperate, and going to a possible contender as a key contributer is always a plus for most players.

What's the general opinion, sign him, or give Reddick a chance?

Jermaine Dye had 5 errors this past season. I heard reports that he has a cement glove at this stage of his career. Oh and he'd have to go to Triple A for a period of time seeing that he hit just .175 in the 2nd half and hasnt participated in any baseball activities since the end of the season

What can he do that Lowell can't? We're already spending $13M on a RHH with no clear role, why pick up another one?

He probably needs a couple of weeks to get ready.

We don't need an LF. We have 5 guys who can play the outfield when Cameron and Ellsbury are healthy. All of them can get around LF better than Jermaine Dye.

Cameron is a long way from being healthy if he needs surgery, and with him out Ellsbury needs to play CF.

Well, they have had a cement glove in left field for atleast ten years.

If Dye puts up Manny numbers of 40/130... granted Ill take him.. but who's to say he can be a force in the lineup with 7 months off (coming off a .175 avg in 2nd half)? I just dont see Theo signing him. Maybe if Lowell wasnt still on the team that is

Do it. Even if he only hits for half of the year, by the time he falls off the face of the earth maybe the rest of the team will start hitting.

Good point. We could use some first half hitter. We have plenty of second half hitters,

NWIH do I want Dye anywhere near this team. He fell off a cliff ofensively last year and I believe has regressed badly in the 2nd half the last 3.

Run prevention cant prevent kidney stones. No one could have foreseen that.

So one injury throws the whole philosophy down the drain? LOL.

Get Dye in the lineup even if he has to play SS?

Two things:

The "Get Dye even if he has to play SS" is obviously an exxageration. So whats your point?

The philosophy doesnt "Go down the drain". You play Dye in LF at Fenway where he could possibly do an adequate job, and play someone else on the road. And if im not mistaken, Lackey, Scutaro and Beltre are members of the run prevention squad. No kidney stones there.

Scutaro is now a leader in the run prevention game? A guy who has been average at best through his career and absolutely horrible to start the yr? Seriously, Dipre. Open your eyes when you watch the game. They sold you a bridge

In all fairness, no one's really playing the way that they should be for the Red Sox, as far as the run-prevention goes. And offensively, goes the same. If you think about it really, you understand that in all likelihood, the Sox will be back, 'cause everyone's playing under what they're capable of right now.

Like I said, give it some time, it's been a couple weeks, I'm not sweating over it.

Beltre, Lackey?

They sold me a bridge? Interesting. Come back to me about that one in July.

Beltre is a damn third baseman! Dipre, just want to have you answer one thing. Is the key to a solid, run preventing defense having plus defenders up the middle of the field? (ie catcher, SS, 2b, and CF)

No, the stats back up the run-prevention theory, my friend. Think about it with an unbiased mind for one second. I'm not saying it was the best scheme to go with, but I am saying that what's happening now, is a speedbump. Things are bound to return to normal. Unless you all were expecting Youk to be hitting poorly, as well as pretty much everyone in the lineup.

Scutaro's solid, Martinez sucks, Pedroia is awesome, and so is Mike Cameron (when he's not hurt)

So, what's your point? We have good defenders at most positions.

This is hysterical.

This has to be my all-time favorite post. Jacko is telling someone to watch the game.

I...........LOVE............IT!!!!!

Every plus defensive position in a team helps save runs in the long run. Dont know what youre trying to argue.

An excellent defensive 3B will not save you as many runs as a SS or a 2B, but will still make a difference over a s***** 3B. Trying to minimize the importance of other defensive positions to suit your argument is dishonest.
