Just in case you forgot how important high school football is in Texas, the residents of Allen will soon have a $59.6 million stadium that will leave no doubt.

 

Next month in the booming north Dallas suburb, ground will be broken on a state-of-the-art, 18,000-seat facility that will feature two decks, a video scoreboard, four concession stands and 12 restrooms. It is scheduled to open in the fall of 2012.

To clarify:

 

High School was grades 10,11, and 12 back then.

 

I attended Newton High for 10 and 11.

 

The new school opened in the fall of 1973. I was part of the first graduating class from the new school in 1974.

 

I was the first person to swim in the pool. To bad I got caught. That sucked.

Haha wow as a kid, i lived in melissa tx, which is just 15 mins away from Allen. The small town I lived in just had a middle school... but the whole town literally showed up up for the middle school's football team haha

This would support the idea that football is bigger in the South. Not that it's not big up here, but it's inconceivable to me that any high school should have a stadium like that.
