TedWilliams, excellent post.

If RSN would just shutup about Ortiz, he'd probably be doing much better.. but we all know that will never happen.

Ortiz will be in the lineup at least through April. Francona will give him that long to try and work it out. From now until... I'm just going to do what I always do, watch every game and root for the Sox.

And a few have noted but it hasn't really caught on, Ortiz is a notorious slow starter. I didn't expect him to come out of the gate flying.

Yeah ok

Yes rules... because constant pressure, scrutiny and insults from the media, every fan board, every person on the street and every other 'tard that breathes isn't going to add any additional stress to a man that by definition a head-case (i.e. he's a baseball player, they're all nuts).

If you cant take the heat, get out of the kitchen. The guy was bitching about not getting an extension before the season started, and hes started out looking like an over matched single-A hitter.

I love how people quote Papi's numbers against a pitcher now as if they are relevant.

They aren't. He's a shell of himself, whether it's age or the PEDs..but he's not the same player. The number he put up 4 years ago are 100% irrelevant.

...or maybe a severe wrist injury. Wrist injuries have been known to ruin a player's ability to drive the ball.

It still too early to give up on Ortiz, but we have Mike Lowell, we might as well get him in the lineup against lefties. But we can't afford to have Francona still with Ortiz until June like he did last season. This team can't afford to have another black hole in the middle of the lineup like last season. I'm surprised I haven't heard Adrian Gonzalez trade pleas start up yet...

A story worth sharing

Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff April 13, 2010 10:03 PM

As you know, David Ortiz struck out four times on Sunday. Given the state of things and the heat coming down on him, it had to be a rough day.

That's what makes this e-mail from a Red Sox fan named Jeremy worth sharing. A Missouri resident, he took his family to the game and found himself in the hallway outside the clubhouse afterward.

His daughter Jordan, who turns 3 in July, counts David as her favorite player and named her rocking horse after him. I'll let Jeremy tell the rest of the story ...

"Several players made their way to the elevator without even a hello. Then emerged Ortiz, and instinctively my little girl says "Big Papi"! After a rough game and I am sure tough questioning, he stopped, turned around, and came over to my little girl. He spoke, signed a ball for her and left with at least one moment of a smile on his face.

"Despite the weight of the 'Red Sox Nation' on his shoulders, he found a way to touch the life of a young fan that he will never know the importance of. ... In our eyes, he is a person to look up to and can only hope he finds the happiness he once had smacking the ball around the yard."

I have no idea whether David will recapture his form as a player or not. But anybody who is nice to kids is somebody deserving of your support because — and this is a shame — every player is not.

Thanks for the e-mail. Jeremy and here's hoping Jordan enjoys watching her favorite player this season.

There's a difference between hating Ortiz as a person and being frustrated with the way he's playing.

Even if Ortiz goes 0 for everything for the rest of the season I'll still love the guy. He has 2 world series rings and a goofy smile, what's not to like.

It's a nice story' date=' but being a nice guy stops helping him once he hits the batters box.[/quote']

Thanks for clarifying that for all of us.

Wow that's really sweet, what a good guy.....

NOW f***ING HIT THE BALL

When's a good time to start then. I love Ortiz as much as the next guy' date=' but if Francona just sits around waiting for him to snap out of it, the team is going to lose baseball games that they might have been able to win. It's depressing to see Ortiz weekly hit into the shift day after day.[/quote']

I'd say now is a good time.

NOW f***ING HIT THE BALL

LOL smart arse!

I wasn't posting the article to give him a break for his lack of hitting, just didn't want to start a new thread.

Hope all is well with ya stranger!

He looks like he did last yr in the first 2 months. Nobody was more shocked than I was last yr when he turned it on. For 2 months, his bat looked slow, and his bat control was terrible. Then he took off. With Hermida hitting, and Lowell on the bench, Papi cannot take 2 months to get going. If Papi is still hitting like absolute dogshit by the time NY comes to town again in May, then he's gonna get phased out.

And, I know a lot of people think he'd stay with the team, etc. I don't. A Big Papi that isnt hitting is not useful to the team. My guess is he gets cut

Drew is hitting about a buck fifty' date=' but no one is calling for his head.[/quote']

Are you serious?

About 10 reactionary Drew threads have been made.

I am more worried about Drew than Ortiz. Back problems ruined Mattingly's career. Add the herniated disks that Drew has to his two bad shoulders, and his days as a productive hitter could be on the wane. I'm hoping they both get in grooves. We need them both.

If he f***s up one of those shoulders, opt out and bye-bye.

I choose to worry about Drew instead of Ortiz' date=' because I am not a racist.;)[/quote']

But you are sexist, seeing as he apparently has a "mangina" .No matter how you look at it, you're "something"-ist.
