The extent of Beckett's workouts is that he's playing catch right now. He won't be ready to pitch next week. They won't trade for/sign a new player if Dice-k will be fine two starts from now. Doubront is the best they've got right now. One bad start in the majors won't destroy his confidence. Doubront pitching 5 innings is far better than the bullpen pitching 9 like they did today.

We know Dojji is happy. I'm cool with it, despite my protestations that he may not be able to pitch 6+ innings. Dice-K sucks. Maybe he'll end up replacing him. God knows Dice-K doesn't give you 6+ innings.

Yeah you're right, it's Jesus Montero, and my point stands because Boston has already declared these guys untouchable, therefore they are not trading chips. You're right that they could be traded if the return is big enough, but that's not the same thing as being a trading chips.

 

Of course, rooting for a team like you do that uses all of its prospects as "trading chips," I'm not surprised that you're confused as to the distinction.
