Batting average isn't a very good stat to determine offensive prowess. It leaves too much out.

I'd rather have a .270 AVG with a lot of walks and good power than a .340 average that's all singles.

I just included his full offensive line as you were typing that. A .322/.356/.430 batting line is plenty respectable for an 18 year old gold glove caliber shortstop playing at the level of AA competition.

Shortstops generally don't hit for much power or get on base much. The average MLB shortstop with at least 300 AB last year had an OPS around .700.

Navarro just ended the game with a tremendous barehanded play to gun down the runner at first after the ball redirected off the foot of the pitcher. Not bad for a newly converted 3B.

Let's not get too excited over Jose's double facing a college pitcher. Play with stats and project anything you want if if makes you feel good. The kid needs seasoning. When he hits AA and faces tough pitches every at bat, then everyone can have a better idea what the kid may be able to do.

I'll say this, he does not seem timid.

It is also good that Boof said that his shoulder is feeling fine after the game.

Drew and Cameron back on Friday. Dice-k to throw bullpen session on Friday to.

It's just a hit in ST and he obviously has a lot of seasoning to do as someone who just turned 20. But I don't think his bat is as weak as it was made out to be when we signed him. He's obviously no Hanley but hit just fine in Cuba in a league that's supposedly on par with AA.

Whatever.

It will be interesting to watch his development.

Yeah, I can't wait for the Sox development guys to get their hands on him and teach him some pitch selection and patience.

I can't fault a guy for getting enthusiastic about prospects. I certainly hope and believe that we'll get at least one decent shortstop for this team out of Lowrie and Iglesias.

I could see Iglesias as an Orlando Cabrera type, and that wouldn't be a bad thing to have. I still hold out hope that Lowrie could become a switch hitting Yunel Escobar type. You can combine those two to great effect..

If nothing else, Lowrie could make a tremendous bench player. He can play second, third and short and he absolutely mashes lefties to the tune of a .313/.391/.495 batting line over his major league career.

If Lowrie continues to have injury problems with his left hand, it might be the end of his switch-hitting, which would leave him fairly weak against RHP since he has little practice facing them from the right side.

I have to work but it's not on TV and I don't get WEEI anyways.

They haven't cut Brown yet?

I'm moderately surprised. I'm guessing he'll be a casualty of a 40-man roster need or a AAA catcher squeeze at some point this year.

Really that is awesome. thanks for that. I am in NJ as you know and on Dish so no MLB or NESN.

I tried that once, they shut it down for the game.

Gameday Audio is like $15/year with a basic Red Sox Nation membership. It's by far the cheapest way to participate in the baseball season and it's a real value for people who just want to LISTEN to the game. I have it because we're on the far side of a hill with some iron in it, which distorts the radio broadcast.

If you have MLB.TV, Gameday Audio's bundled into that.

I'm pretty sure that if I ever tried to go on a computer at work:

A. I'd be fired.

B. Someone would be going to the hospital.

In past years, MLB didn't blackout the radio feed for pre-season games. I don't know if that is still true.

I tried to tune in to WEEI on the net last night but instead of the game they were airing some ESPN baseball tonight s***. That sucked.

That stinks. They don't give away anything. I subscribe to the SportsPack on Directv in addition to paying for the Extra-Innings Pack to get all the MLB games. I get the SportsPack to get NESN so I can see the pre-game and post-game shows. However, it blacks me out of other Red Sox programming like the weekly Red Sox wrap up show, classic game replays etc. That pisses me off. I am paying extra for NESN and I am paying MLB to get the games on Extra Innings, but they still black me out for certain Red Sox programming. What is stupid about it, and there are few things the Sox are stupid about, is that I can't even purchase the additional programming.

I do the exact same thing. It pisses me off too when they don't show "Red Sox in 2" and a handful of other shows about the team during the week. I think the Sox are the only team that has these blackouts because I don't seem to have a problem getting other MLB team's shows or any other programs. I get the pre and post game shows just fine as well, but it's tv shows like The Red Sox Report and such that usually are blacked out for whatever reason. Very annoying.

What do you do?

Think Shutter Island. No, I'm just kidding. I'm a habilitation counselor for people with mental illness. It's actually quite fun and the guys I work with are quite pleasant 95% of the time. Yesterday, in a house near where I work though, the counselors had to mental hygiene someone and when the police came the client lifted one of them into the air and threw him to the ground, knocking him unconscious, then he broke another officer's leg when they tried to restrain him.

They definitely keep you on your toes. One day, a guy could be the jokester of the house, the next day if you ask him "why did the chicken cross the road?" he might think that you just said you were going to kill his mother.
