Boston... where the GM will go on the radio and strongly assert how valuable he sees his player when a lot of other people won't. I'd want to stick around too.

As much as there are things about Drew that I don't love, I have to admit that he would be a pain to replace, even in a good FA class. Good corner outfielders don't come cheap.

Do you know how many players would LOVE for their GM to stick his neck out on the line publicly to stick up for a player? But all told, whenever the issue of "so what's next?" comes up with a veteran player, the "I'd love to retire here" line is uttered the majority of the time....unless it's Manny Ramirez of course.

Most of the players that say that end up being traded away lol. Anyway, we'll see what Drew says when his contract is up in two years and he has to decide whether or not to go chasing the money again. I'd take him back if he took less because he does bring some things to the table such as a great OBP and solid OF defense.

This recent article suggests that he may consider retirement after 2011 (when his current contract is up) and if he is to play after then, he'd only want to play for the Red Sox.

"If Drew decides to continue his baseball career after 2011, there's only one place he wants to play -- Boston."

... and he'll want 4 years/$60 + million to resign. These statements about where players want to play/end their career mean nothing to me. It's a business. They go where the $ is. Statements like this are just pablum for the fans.

If Drew puts up .850+OPS seasons through 2010-2011, he'll be in line for another 7-10 million dollar paycheck. I highly doubt he passes that up. If he falls off the wagon or literally crumbles physically, then retirement might be his only choice

I can see the Sox giving him 2/20 if he continues at his current play. They always could slide him over to LF if need be. Probably be the best defensive LF in awhile lol.

So far, I think the Red Sox lucked out on Drew. He has that Boras-type inflated contract, but he has done a lot of good things in Boston. Particularly in playoff time. Tito has done a good job keeping him fresh for the late season.
