This afternoon is opening day for most college baseball teams. I love this time of year with college baseball getting underway and MLB isn't far away either.

 

Anyone here follow college baseball much?

 

Mississippi State is hosting a 3 game series vs Rhode Island this weekend. I'm watching it now.

Mississippi State came back and got 2 in the 9th to beat Rhode Island 9-8. We had the bases loaded and were down to our final out and hit a chopper in between 3B/SS and tied it up, followed by a ball that was smacked over the CF's head. It was ugly though. We made 5 errors today. But still, I'll take a win on opening day.

 

LSU looks like the team to beat... again.

Barring injuries, neither should be on a pitch count.

Game isn't until April 23, so both should be in mid-season form.

Watching Mississippi State and Rhode Island this afternoon. Bulldogs up 1-0 in the 2nd.

 

I'm so glad Connor Powers came back for his senior season. He blasted his 1st HR of the year in the 1st inning. He had 19 last year.

Mississippi State beat Rhode Island 12-6 today to finish off the sweep. I'm encouraged considering we were picked 11th in the SEC and have a really young team across the board.

Mississippi State and UAB played a great game yesterday. UAB led 5-2 in the 7th, and 5-4 going to the bottom of the 9th and Luke Adkins hit a solo shot to lead off the inning, followed by Connor Powers hitting the walk off opposite field bomb for the 6-5 win.

 

Powers has 3 homers in 4 games.

LSU improved to 4-0 by beating McNeese St last night 2-1.

 

Ranaudo is gonna miss his start tomorrow night (and possibly the one after that one).

Mainieri says its nothing serious, but he has an "awkward feeling" in his pitching elbow.

 

losing him for an extended period would be the worst possible news for this team.

Wow, Pomeranz fanned 15 in 7 innings. Alex Wimmers is also dominating at Ohio State. I hope my bro gets to face him in Florida.

 

I'm curious if anyone knows how many sons or relatives of former MLB players are playing right now. I know Oklahoma alone has two (Seitzer and Buechele). EIU has recruited a distant relative of Yogi Berra. Surprise, surprise: he's a catcher. Valparaiso has Eddie Gaedel's (Technically, he counts) great nephew, who is actually quite tall.

LSU overcomes an 8 run deficit, and win 10-9 over William and Mary.

 

Austin Ross had a perfect game going with 2 out in the 5th until the wheels came off and WM&M lit him up, and his replacement.

What happened?

As far as my brother is concerned, the scorekeeper took away two hits from him this series. One went through the hole on the right side. The second basemen dived for it and couldn't reach it. Scored an error. Another was a line shot that the second baseman couldn't get to in the first or second game. Scored an error.

 

The scorekeeper was charging infielders with errors left and right, including my bro at third. On a force out at second, the second baseman dropped the ball. Error charged to my bro. Hot shot to third, initially scored a hit. Then five minutes later, the scorekeeper changes his mind. Error charged to my bro. In all fairness, he was doing this to everybody.

 

The field umpire made some really awful calls in favor of Belmont. He was pretty much their 10th player. My bro hit a ball that had HR distance down the right field line yesterday. The home plate umpire called it foul. It only seemed to hook foul after it had already crossed the foul pole. It was close, but every close call went Belmont's way.

4 seed Minnesota beat 1 seed Cal State Fullerton last night. In that same regional New Mexico also beat Stanford so you've got the 3 and 4 going in the winners bracket game later tonight on ESPNU.

 

Virginia hammered Ole Miss tonight. Really enjoyable to see.
