The Americans beat the Canadians in their own venue at their own sport. Hopefully they don't have to face the Canadians again because you know that they're pissed. And there's nothing scarier than a bunch of pissed off Canadians.

Canada will beat Germany on Tuesday, then will have to face Russia. Should be a great matchup, and get one of the two powerhouses out of the tournament.

Anyone know who US will face the winner of?

I'm not sure' date=' but I believe if Sweden beats Finland later tonight we get the #1 overall seed.[/quote']

Just looked it up.

A Swede win tonight means USA would have an easy route into the semifinals where they would likely play the winner of Czech and Finland. Sweden would likely play the winner of Russia/Canada in the other semis.

I hope they don't have to play Canada again because I don't think they will win the rematch.

Come on Sweden.

I still think Canada wins the gold.

What a hell of a game. I'd love to see a second US/Canada down the road, but I also hope we get to see Canada/Russia (Crosby vs. Ovechkin) -- that'll be a hell of a game!

Really hope this game draws more people to the sport of hockey! That really was some great hockey!

Canada/Russia will be a quarterfinal match up.

Soonest US/Canada can meet up is the Final, and that would sure be something to see.

The only chance we have is if Luongo starts instead of Brodeur, who s*** the bed yesterday.

If the NHL was anything like this, then I'd almost be interested. There should be fighting in the Olympics though, as you know both teams wanted to go at it.

I agree with Whiskey, as I said earlier, I don't see the US winning a rematch vs. Canada, although it'd be a very good game nonetheless. Ditto on seeing Canada vs. Russia.

EDIT: its confirmed . Luongo will start next game for Canada

I disagree with your first point. For one, because fighting seems to be the exact opposite of what the "Olympic spirit" is and I may be in the minority, but I think the game of hockey is just as good, if not better, without the fighting. All the fighting does to me is leave room on the roster for guys who, based on skill alone, wouldn't be good enough to play in the NHL otherwise.

But that Kessler goal was phenomenal. Considering the circumstances and the degree of difficulty, regardless of what happens in this tournament for the United States, that is one goal I will always remember!

And I think we've seen the last of Brodeur these olympics.

edit: And also, Ryan Miller become one of my favorite players last night. Truly an amazing performance by him. The way he kept the Canadians from scoring again in that late onslaught of theirs before the Kessler goal was remarkable!

I agree that fighting takes away from the talent of the sport, but I don't watch games for the talent of the sport. I rarely watch hockey games even when I know there's going to be a fight. I respect your opinion, I just don't see hockey the same way you do. Outside of rivalry Olympic matches where national pride is at stake, I'll only watch ice hockey for the fights. If only you could do that in other sports...

The lack of fighting doesn't really bother me. Fighting interrupts the flow of the game. I'm glad they didn't take any TV timeouts in the U.S. v. Canada game. Stoppage of play is annoying.

Hope the Men's US team continues to do well. Great game Sunday, no doubt.

I'm looking forward to the Women's Gold Medal game Thursday evening USA v. Canada. GO USA!

I'm absolutely loving my first exposure to Olympic hockey. I only "found" the sport late in '06 and I wasn't in a position to appreciate good hockey back then, so I'm really enjoying this.

That's kind of strange given that you live in a state where the State's university has such a strong hockey program and where NHL broadcast are available.

Better late than never!

Lack of opportunity. Grew up without cable TV, really had no ability to watch sports in earnest until college, and there are no Bruins radio broadcasts in my part of Maine (that I know of). Also, Mom and Dad met and married in San Diego, and Dad's still a San Diego Padres fan. Not exactly a great way to build a home hockey tradition.

It took me "inheriting" my grandmother's old TV and setting up the cables in the college dorms to even get an idea what I was missing

My first exposure to the Bruins was watching Hannu Toivonen disintegrate. My second was Tim Thomas' first start in the '06-'07 season. I think the third was that game against Tampa where he made that absolutely ridiculous "Are you kidding me?" save. That might help to explain why I'm such a passionate Thomas defender.

My exposure to the Hawks began fairly late as well, but that's largely because home games weren't televised up until a year ago or so. Thanks for finally dying, Bill Wirtz. I couldn't be bothered to follow a team that only aired half of its games.

If you guys like this, you'd really love the World Junior Hockey Championships which is a MASSIVE deal here in Canada when the tourney starts every Boxing Day but unless any of you guys have a satellite dish that gets TSN, I don't think you're able to see it.

I'd go Fleury, if I were Canada. Luongo's never been good in big moments. I think that's a mistake that costs them this tournament.
