Predictable Dipre dig.

I never said anything about Tazawa being terrible. I said that by the time he came up, he was definitely not the guy he was billed as. I am chalking that up to fatigue, which is essentially what you are doing when you use the fact that this was his first season as a professional. You gotta stop being a dick to people that you are actually agreeing with. It kinda makes you look like a dumbass.

When Bowden and Buchholz were in the short season leagues, Bowden had more polish and the deeper arsenal. I liked Bowden at the time more than Buchholz. He has the raw tools, I will tell you that much. I am just not sure if his mechanical changes and his control necessitated him to drop some velocity or tighten up his breaking pitches. If his stuff doesnt change, then YAB is right.

Exactly.

It is what it is. He just took a shot calling Tazawa "overhyped". He gets called out on it, immediately backpedals. Fantastic.

Someone not mentioned, and a dark-horse candidate for a bullpen spot:

Scott Atchison. He's been excellent so far.

*sigh*

Back on topic:

Interestingly enough, Scott Atchison tossed another scoreless inning today. His story is an interesting one, since he came back to pitch to the states because of a disease that affects his daughter.

Varitek actually got a hit off a RHP. The things ya see in ST.....

when Tazawa was signed' date=' he was billed as a low to mid 90s FB guy with 2 plus pitches. When I saw him pitch, he was topping out in the 91-92 range while sitting 89-90 and only had one pitch to write home about, the curve. [b']My thoughts are that he fatigued, but if that is really the kind of pitcher he is, then he was incredibly overhyped[/b].

It's called reading. See the bolded parts, I figure the bigger words will help you.

If he was fatigued, which both of us think he was, then so be it. If his stuff is as shown at the end of the yr, then he was overhyped.

Ok Jacko. There was obviously zero intent to take a shot there. Just your honest, unbiased thoughts.

Anyways, i'd forgotten to ask, but did anyone catch Lowell playing 1B? I couldn't see the game, and would like to know how he looked.

I bet you caught the reference though. Hint: Sitcom about nothing in particular.

"sigh" - Hahahahahaha ! That's right. Everyone on Talksox bow down!

.

Atchinson is a nice story. Kind of like Gonzo from last year. Ultimately, no one cares about human interest stories. Too bad.

Tek should surprise no one. He can still play the game.

I hope there is a brawl with the Yankees and he can finish A-Rod off.

Not "sigh" ,*sigh* for added effect.

If Varitek can start hitting RHP again on his limited role, he'll be an asset no one could have expected.

is this your way of saying you were wrong? BTW' date=' nice try changing the subject[/quote']

Nope. It's my way of trying to let you off the hook for being as predictable as a watch.

The premise is wrong. An adjustment period is to be expected for the kid, not to mention that you're using non-official reports that were obviously wrong about his stuff. You saw the chance to diminish his body of work and took it, which is what you usually do. His stuff is what it is, but he's a kid in his first year of pro ball who's not even done in the developmental process.

If he were a Yankee prospect, you'd have more excuses than OJ Simpson.

Cue the Jacko Defense Squad.

Lowrie has mono

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff March 17, 2010 09:57 AM

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Time for everyone to keep their cups to themselves. That mystery illness that has afflicted Jed Lowrie? That would be mononucleosis.

"He can play as tolerated," Terry Francona said. "There's a reason he was feeling rundown last week. He was on the bike yesterday. I don't think he's going to feel like he has a ton of energy for the next week or two, but he can do physical things as tolerated. So we'll monitor him.

"I don't think we want him kissing anybody."

In other injury news...

The Sox are also hoping that Daisuke Matsuzaka still throws to hitters, as he's scheduled to do, though it's cold and damp here in Fort Myers. It's not raining at the moment, but has been doing so off-and-on this morning.

Jacoby Ellsbury is still battling throat soreness, so he'll be examined by doctors, then will have tomorrow off. He's likely to work out Friday, and then be back in the lineup on Saturday.

Gil Velazquez had his thumb jammed when he slid into first base yesterday. He will also get time with the doctors.

Josh Beckett is improved from the illness that kept him from his last start. He's on target for his next one.

In non-injury news...

Dustin Richardson was optioned to Triple A. He was scheduled to pitch in tomorrow's minor league game, and there just weren't enough innings to keep him around on the major league side.

"He's an interesting guy," Francona said. "He's left-handed, he's very athletic, good pitcher's body. He needs innings, he needs reps, he needs to pound the strike zone. We told him that. He's a young kid that's got some finish on a fastball. He can throw it in the zone and get hitters out. But consistency's going to be a big deal. You can't go 3-2 on hitters and not pay a price. That's all part of development."

Well' date=' Ortiz just tried to steal his annual base, so I guess the knee is fine at least.[/quote']

And he had it, too!

The crowd got a big kick out of it.

Red Sox acquire RHP to complete trade

Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff March 18, 2010 12:06 PM

This release from the Sox:

The Boston Red Sox today acquired right-handed pitcher Miguel Celestino from Seattle, completing the January 7 trade that sent first baseman Casey Kotchman to the Mariners in exchange for infielder Bill Hall and cash.

Celestino, 20, went 5-3 with a 4.73 ERA (35 ER/66.2 IP) in 13 games/12 starts for the Rookie-level Peoria Mariners of the Arizona League in 2009, his first professional season in the United States. He tossed at least 5.0 innings in 10 of his 13 appearances and had a 13.0-inning scoreless streak from August 11-16. He pitched in the Dominican Summer League from 2007-08 and was originally signed by Seattle as an international free agent on December 16, 2006.
