Willie Parker has nothing left in the tank. I hope the Pats pay Warren and Mankins. Mankins and Volmer are the only guys who seem to have a little agression on the o-line. They want to go out and knock someone over. The rest of the line is soft, Light flat out sucks. I hope Julius Peppers hits the free agent market.

While letting Samuel go I didn't agree with' date=' you do realize that he left in the 08 offseason....but he did play in the superbowl. In fact he had a couple chances to end the game and had the potential INT's go right through his hands.[/quote']

I'm referring to the SB against the Giants. Hobbs had taken over for Samuels at that point, and he was victimized by the Giants. Samuels was with the Eagles that year.

I notice that the Boston media has been giving Belichick a going over yesterday and today. Mazz, Callahan, etc.

Kraft will have to open his wallet if this is a capless year. You can't pinch pennies and win Championships in any sport these days. Those days are long gone. I also think he is overrelying on Belichick. It's time to spread the responsibilities again. He needs some other viewpoints.

I know that's the superbowl you were referring to, and so was I. Samuel was still a member of the patriots during the 2007 season (he was franchised I believe) and left for the Eagles in the 2008 offseason. Samuel played in the superblowl against the Giants and had several chances at the end of the game to end the game with an INT.....they went right through his hands. That was Samuel's last game with the pats!

Nice find, proves the argument and makes me throw up all at once!

One of several high profile plays that did not go well. However, the game was lost on the line of scrimmage where the Giants had their way with the Pats.

I'll be darned. The video shows Samuels was in the Super Bowl against the Giants. But wasn't it Hobbs that gave up the winning TD in the corner of the end zone? Those Patriots teams are just a memory now, anyways. And the Giants were on an incredible roll in the playoffs that year, doing everything right.

You know, Belichick is beginning to remind me a little of Allie Sherman, the old NY Giants coach of the 60s, who wrecked that team by trading off their great defensive stars a bit prematurely. It took that team 20 years to recover. Trading Seymour, Vrabel et al was kind of like that, though it was worse with the Giants. Sherman was not a popular guy in NY after that. Belichick was not thinking about the leadership factor when he made those decisions.

If you say so.

Yes that was hobbs...football teams have been known to play more than one DB at a time. The pats don't have DB's follow guys, so Samuel played defensive left corner and Hobbs defensive right. It just matters where the offense lines up as to who will cover who.

WEEI just said the pats fired Dean Pees...if they were going to do this I would have thought they were going to bring back RAC. Who knows where it's going now. Although if I were to guess, I would guess Pepper Johnson or Matt Patricia would step up for the DC job.

Pees actually stepped down:

http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-england-patriots/post/_/id/4674202/dean-pees-statement

"My contract with the New England Patriots will expire in a couple of weeks and I have informed Mr. Kraft and Coach Belichick that I will not seek to renew it. I enjoyed my time in New England, but feel this is the right time to pursue other opportunities. I had the privilege of working with some great coaches and great players over the past six seasons and leave the Patriots with some wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. In addition to the players and coaching staff, I want to thank the Kraft family, the media and the fans for all of their support.”

Sounds like he had prostrate cancer last summer and treatment was successful. He has had other health issues this season so who knows if he was forced to step down or if it was over health reasons.

With Pees stepping down or being fire or whatever happened to him, the team needs a new defensive coordinator. I think the Pats should promote from within with the defensive coordinator, I think Pepper Johnson should get the gig. However, for the offensive coordinator the Patriots needs to branch out and bring somebody in, b/c hiring from within won't work for this position. I hope the Pats can lure someone in like Mike Martz or something, let him run the offense, and then let Bill go back to worrying about the defensive side of the ball.

Nice article:

http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/extra_points/2010/01/willie_weighs_i.html

"When we were there, we had a foundation and a nucleus of guys that were competitive," said McGinest. "And not competitive against the other team. Competitive against each other. I remember yelling over at (Richard) Seymour during the game, Ty (Warren) and me saying, 'They ain't running over here!' And he and Vrabel yelling back, 'They ain't running here.' And then (Vince) Wilfork saying, 'They sure as heck ain't running here.'

"There was so much pride in that group. I'd never say a Bill Belichick team was not prepared. I know those guys were prepared against Baltimore, they had to know what was coming, what they were getting. See, leadership's not about talking, or saying what needs to happen. It's when that light goes on, guys stepping out and making big plays consistently.

"Not a lot of those guys are there anymore. Some of the guys are -- Vince and Ty understand it. But the other guys are young."'

On Sports Tonight' date=' they were talking about Dick Jauron being an option to handle the offense[/quote']

Trust me, you don't want Dick Jauron anywhere near your team. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Thanks for checking on the Hobbs and Samuels thing in the SB. I thought that was Hobbs they picked on. Samuels has played well for the Eagles--they should have kept him. He has a knack for being on the ball and making the big play.

Regarding a defensive coach, I think they need somebody from the outside who will tell Belichick he's nuts when he's nuts. The Patriots are too monolithic.

Oakland beat some pretty good teams last year and if they had a steady, mediocre QB they would have a lot better record. I think they could go 7-9, 8-8 next year and that 1st round pick won't be nearly as good as everyone thought it would be

I hope Bob Kraft gets out his check because he even knows that we need some big name Pass Rushers.

As my sainted grandmother used to say

""s*** in your right hand and hope with your left, see what fills 1st""

That said I think the sucking sound he heard about 15 minutes after the Baltimore game started will compel him to at least start paying the guys we do have that play well.

This Wolfork thing is bothering me and BB just loves this guy,any guy for that matter who can dominate the line of scrimmage.

Their problems are many, pass rush, run game, weak ass dbacks who tackle like old people f***,tight ends that have granite hands, another deep threat that can actually catch the ball,an offensive line that cant get a push on 3rd and 1, no O coordinator, no d coordinator and a coach who is pretty sure he invented the game and from time to time makes moves just to make his job more challenging.

This is the NFL , we've seen 5-11 teams go 11-5 almost year in and year out now.

Defense needs playmakers, offense needs consistancy.

A 1600 yard back would change this entire teams destiny.

Patriots hire Corwin Brown as new DB coach

http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/sports/rap_sheet/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/corwin-brown.jpg

The Patriots [team stats] have confirmed that they have hired former Notre Dame defensive coordinator Corwin Brown as their defensive backs coach.

Brown is familiar with these parts, having played in New England from 1993-96 for Bill Parcells. He also played for the New York Jets [team stats] when Bill Belichick was an assistant there.

Brown coached the New York Jets defensive backs from 2004-2006 before working for Charlie Weis at Notre Dame.

ESPN first reported the Brown hire.

Brown’s hire leaves the role of last year’s defensive backs coach Josh Boyer a little bit up in the air. But there is more to come with Belichick’s coaching staff. Both linebackers coach Matt Patricia and defensive line coach Pepper Johnson are thought to be frontrunners for the defensive coordinator position, a job left vacant when Dean Pees moved on. Pees is now linebackers coach in Baltimore.

Brown’s hire gives the Pats some experience in a position in which they struggled last year. The secondary’s youth was a problem at times, but it is also an area where the Pats see a lot of potential, with players such as Brandon Meriweather and Darius Butler.

Ole Corwin and I were friendly back in the late 90s when he had some credit issued I fixed for him.

I got taken care of with tickets, Cellular 1 waived about 500.00 in late fees and fixed his TRW and we both shook hands and made friends...A real gentlemen, a very bright guy who does have the intelligence to be an NFL coach some day but thats a long ways away.

Ben Watson sucks anyway. Maybe we should draft or add a TE via free agency and add some variety to this offense. For the guys that didn't play much or at all this year that were hurt last year- Tate and McKienze, will either make an impact this year? I think Tate will be serviceable, but this team needs a legit number three option or even better b/c Welker is gonna miss a lot of the year.

For a while all BB did was draft and sign tightends, inspite of watsons athletic ability he has been a failure as an offensive weapon, this guy was a 1st round pick and plays like he doesnt want to get hurt.
