Good for you bro. Not much of a whiner myself. I support the roster. :)

Hey.

I support the roster, but i'm a demanding fan. I demanded no Kotchman as a regular, and my demands were met. See, my whining pays off sometimes.

Next off-season i'll whine for a Joe Mauer/Cliff Lee dual signing.

You just watch.

Hall's a decent pick up. His offensive stats aren't that sexy but he has a career .315 BABIP and the last couple of years, his BABIP has been about .030 points below that. His lefty/righty splits give him some value off the bench as a PH and he can play second, short, third and center pretty well.

This is a good deal. Our outfield was a bit shallow in CF. Hall helps there. Our infield was weak at SS and 2B. Hall helps there.

This really frees us up to do a whole bunch of different things with that last roster spot -- the one we'll free up by trading Lowell I mean. Could even carry Dusty Brown or Mark Wagner if we wanted to have a third catcher with some defensive chops. If VMart is going to be taking some starts at DH it might make sense to give that a try.

call me crazy but I actually like the idea of having a backup C that can throw out runners if we needed him to, and actually play D above average.

I like this move as well. Hall can play a lot of positions and has more pop than Kotchman. The Mariners are making a mistake, though, if Kotchman is Branyan's replacement.

Defensively he's an upgrade' date=' but offensively it's not even close.[/quote']

Yeah, Hall's certainly not going to be a fan favorite because of his weak offense. But overall, he'll improve the team by preventing guys like Jeff Bailey, Chris Woodward, Nick Green from putting up even worse numbers off the bench.

I think 26 was referring to Kotchman v. Branyan. I could be wrong, though.

He had respectable OPS in his three seasons with more than 500 PA, and is .270/.339/.471 (.810) in 921 PA's vs. LHP.

He HAS hit 35 HR's before. '05-'07 he was a pretty solid player. I think he's a pretty good addition to the team.

If that's the case, then yeah, no way, Branyan is very valuable on offense. Kotchman sucks ass offensively.

I like the move a lot. His versatility will be key. He's the perfect type of player they needed.

I didn't dislike Kotchman, but Hall will be much more useful IMO.

Agreed. Kotchman will be a decent starter if he starts in Seattle, but he wasn't as valuable to us. His limited position avaibility really hurt his bench value, and this team need a RHH coming off the bench. Hall's versatility is great, he can be the 5th OF, and play 2nd, SS, 3rd. I love this move.

For sure.

He's a guy who has played LF, 3B and SS. Not many of those around. He has some pop, so he can give you the long ball off the bench. And he saves some on the salary cap in the money exchange. Oh yeah, he bats RHd, and looks like the 5th OFer right now.

Theo's pre-season has been flawless, discounting the Lowell issue.

This is a guy who 5 years ago hit 35 HRs!! True in the last 4 years he has hit 37 HRs, but I love the pop he adds to the bench. If they were to add Jonny Gomes or Fernando Tatis, Ill love the bench even more so

This team really is all about versatility

Youk can play 1st & 3rd on a gold glove level, he could even play left field if the Sox are ailing at any point. Cameron, Ellsbury and Drew all are able to slide to another OF position. V-Mart can play catcher and 1st. Scutaro can play ss, 2b and 3b.. and now they have Hall who can play most of the infield as well as the outfield

As of right now, Wake doesn't have a spot in the starting rotation and even if he does, IRRC V-Mart did a solid job with him last season. I think one inning of Varitek catching him in the '04 ALCS and Josh Bard made us think that it takes a catching prodigy to catch a knuckler.

In the rotation or not, the chance of all 5 the other guys being healthy and pitching well all year (buch/dice-k especially) is slim to none. Plus, you have to factor in early relief appearances( which I'm assuming wake would fill). Wakefield is still getting 80+ innings.

Not only that, but considering the speed of his fastball, it might make sense to bring in someone who can prevent stolen bases.
