Who knows what really happened? But if they both drew down, then I believe that they should both get the boot. It's not exactly a shoving match that could be easily quelled by team mates.

They had lethal weapons in hands. Someone could have very easily been hurt. It's not a video game.

It's not the hood. It was a place of business. And gun play is not acceptable in that circumstance.

The NBA is effed up, players are doing drugs, clubbing and drinking every night, getting put into questionable situations (Glen Davis bar fight, Paul Pierce stabbing years ago), the Refs throw games, and now we have guys drawing guns in the locker room.

NFL has the Bengals and Plaxico.

lol if you don't think there is a very large amount of marijuana/cocaine in the NFL, I have a bridge to sell you.

And the Kobe incident.

Though I've had one to sell to you for quite some time.

No you don't, because there's no way that isn't a joke account.

This is not a joke account.

The culture of the NBA is definitely more thugg-ish than it used to be. But the worst part of the game is the general lack of commitment to defense and everyone jacking up threes. The officiating could also be better.

The NBA is a joke and a bore. I haven't watched it since Bird and Magic left the game. The first 44-46 minutes are a waste of time and generally have no impact on the outcome of the game. Too many teams make the playoffs. They should play 5 minute games and play 6 games a night. The schedule should be 240 five minute games, and only the Division winners should make the playoffs which would be the best of twenty-one 10 minute games. Playoff teams would play three 10 minute games against each other each night. That would be an interesting league.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with the league as it is, but, the league's quality has gone down from what it used to be. No exciting players like there used to be. I wish I was around when the NBA was really popular, but I do like basketball now.

No it wouldn't.

Yes it would. It would be very different from how it is now, but that's definitely some good outside the box thinking. Every 5 minute game would be frantic and teams would win with scores like 18-15. Weird.

Weird =/= interesting.

There isn't a whole lot wrong with the game itself as is. The formatting could use some work. I'd change the regular season length, trim it from 82 to 64 games. For scheduling, maybe give a team 50 games against its own conference (15 teams, with same division teams getting 4 guaranteed matchups, like it is now), and then 10 more for one home and one away game against one western conference division that rotates each year (so basically the MLB and NFL approach). The remaining 4 games can be miscellaneous matchups determined based on marketability. So with the current balance of power in the NBA, the Celtics and Lakers can get a guaranteed matchup every year (maybe alternating the site each year), and then the Celtics could get additional games against Cleveland, Orlando, and whoever.

If the season starts at the same time as it does now, that probably puts the playoffs on tap for mid-late March, which I think would work well. No tinkering needs to be done with the playoffs, which I find plenty exciting. I feel this setup would really help emphasize the playoffs a bit more and create more exciting playoff chases, since less games = less possible win totals = less distance in the standings.

I just think the players need work. Seriously, it seems like there are no guys who you root for anymore, not the guys who everyone knows anymore. There used to be Jordan, Barkley, Ewing, Robinson, Olajuwon, Magic, Bird, etc etc etc...

A lot of guys who everyone knows, now, there's what? Kobe, LeBron.... KG? TD? Allen Iverson was one. Who else is there though? I don't know, it just seemed like the talent was spread out more too. As great as the Chicago Bulls were in the 90's, they always had fights from the Knicks, Pacers, Pistons, and with whoever they played in the Finals. The game was just better, for a lot of reasons.

This. They should take out two teams from each conference. You would eliminate the pathetic playoff teams and make the postseason shorter, killing two birds with one stone.

I don't know how anyone could root for A.I..

If you lament the loss of the players you listed, Imagine having seen the '60s, '70s, and '80s.

I went to see dozens of games at the Garden in the '70's. There is just no comparison in the level of intensity and competition. Imagine sitting there watching Lucas, DeBushere (sp), Frazier, Monroe, Reid, and Bradley. All on ONE team. Of course the Celts weren't exactly stiffs, either. Cowens, Havlicek, Sanders, Nelson, White, and Chaney.

Those were very great games. Most of which were won by the Knicks. But every minute of the game was intense. Like the best of playoff games are now.

Even watching teams like The Suns, Pistons, Bulls, Sonics, Kings, and of course, the Sixers

were ALLWAYS very entertaining. Every play of every minute. I think this is a lot of what A700 misses. It just does not exist anymore. Add to that, Zone defenses are allowed, walking is allowed, low post play has been de-emphasized (sp), and the dilution of talent,

well, the game is just not what it was 30-40 years ago.

I respect that people like J_E enjoy the game now. But if you had been around "Back in the Day", you'd likely be in agreement with me.

Just my $.02.

Well, regardless of what people see AI as, he's a great competitor, who works hard on the court. He was relentless, there's a reason why he was always near the top in steals and scoring. He was a lockdown defender and of course we all know a great scorer. He was a household name in his prime. He's one of the guys we all know.
Posted
I've always admired AI's heart. Say what you want about the off-the-court issues, but he has played the game the right way.

He has. He was a talent-and-a-half. He could really play, and he played the came at a high level of intensity. Most people attack his work ethic because of the whole "practice" thing, but he really did play as hard as he could at all times. He CARRIED the 6'ers to the Finals, and against the Lakers. He simply wasn't enough to overcome Bryant, Shaq and co.

Well, I guess if all you are used to is Keystone Light, then maybe you'd have some difficulty appreciating a really good beer.

A.I. was a gifted athlete. He was a very talented basketball player. But he did very little to make his team better. Granted, he played on some really s***** teams. He was just too "Me" for my tastes. The ball went through him on every play. And more times than not, went no further. His stats are what they are, in large part, because he controlled the ball.

As far as a lock down defender? Really, I would pay to see him try to defend Oscar Robertson (example).

That would be funny.
