Cubs trade Bradley to Mariners for Carlos Silva

The Cubs and M's swapped bad contracts tonight with the Cubs acquiring Carlos Silva, who makes $25m over the next 2 years for the headcase Milton Bradley, who makes $21m over the next 2 years. The Mariners also sent $9m to the Cubs in this deal, which I don't really get, but if Bradley can avoid being a distraction he may be able to help this greatly improved Seattle team.

That's a huge 'if'. In fact, I believe that 'if' is large enough to be seen from space without visual enhancement.

Yeah, but they atleast could have gotten some value for Bradley, rather than taking on Silva, who sucked mightily in one of THE pitcher's ballpark's. Bradley's a mental case, but at least he has talent.

I love how Hendry has "taken responsibility" for the Bradley signing, but he's also been saying no one could have foreseen what happened with Bradley. Ricketts is an ass for not firing this man.

I doubt it. The Mariners rise, the Angels fall, and Texas is better. They beat up on each other a bit more.

 

Meanwhile in the AL East, the Yankees and Red Sox pull away from the pack, with the Jays getting worse without Roy.

Not out of the West. that is what i Was meaning. The Angels will still field a good team and have an impact on the Division. They have lost a lot though.

The Angels also just got Matsui, which makes up for losing Figgins. Lackey is a big loss, though. No doubt about that. They need Kazmir, Saunders, and Santana to rebound.

They lose Vlad. Matsui is better, but not appreciably, I believe.

Yeah, they'll lose Vlad, but I don't think their FO is done this offseason. If they do stand pat, they're playing with fire. Because obviously the Mariners have closed the gap significantly.

As far as FAs go, the pickings get slim after that. But, and this is just my opinion, I think they're going to make a big trade. Can't say who they'll go after, though.
