Start fitting Adrian Beltre for his red socks. Even though the Sox are eating so much of the contract, Beltre is a huge upgrade over Lowell at this point IMO.

What does this mean????? They must be in on a deal with Adrian Gonzalez assuming that Youk will play third, otherwise.....why does this make sense?

Sox have their catcher of the future in the fold. If V-Mart is locked up, 2011 and beyond he would be 1st base/DH

Farewell Mikey Lowell, thanks for the memories. I have to get tickets for the first rangers game at Fenway Park

Keep dreaming

Sorry to disappoint you. I would be shocked if the Red Sox didn't sign Beltre.

With $54 million coming off the books this offseason, the Sox are one of few teams that could eat that much salary. Beltre would be quite the upgrade in offense, defense, and health. Beltre did miss time this season, but it was because of a torn testicle... Ouch!

Why? You think they moved Mike Lowell, and are paying his whole salary to sign Beltre, who had a worse year than Lowell? Sorry to disappoint you, but I doubt those are his plans. This moves paves the way for a bigger move, not a smaller one.

I don't get this trade.

-It's not a salary dump

-They're not getting a good prospect. (He must be good defensively)

-And they gave up a pretty good bat (Albeit old and breaking down)

What am I missing. Must be another shoe to drop.

With Lowell gone, I'd say this means one of three things.

A. Theo is going after Gonzalez and moving Youk to third.

B. Theo is going after Beltre and keeping Youk at first.

C. Technically, it could also mean Youk moves to thrid, VMart moves to first, and they platoon Varitek and Ramirez.

Option A sounds good to me. Option B would be okay. Option C doesn't make much sense, as the lineup doesn't get any better.

He played 3 seasons in Boston and you're making him out to be a significant player in Red Sox history, like he's Nomar or Mo Vaughn or Rico Petrocelli or something. C'mon now. What next, gonna throw a parade when Jason Bay returns as a Mariner?

Why do people act like there isn't an emotional attachment to players? Hell, I liked Carlos Baerga. :dunno:

He helped the Sox win the World Series... Sox fans give Orlando Cabrera a standing ovation and he was just here for 3 months. So f***ing what if I want to give him a standing ovation

And it was 4 seasons he played here

Or they are spinning the Catching prospect to Toronto in a deal for Halladay. We technically already have a catcher for the immediate future, and Toronto is looking for one.

Either they are going after Adrian Gonzalez, or Roy Halladay.

Still not confirmed or nothing anywhere else.

Rosenthal's got it. It's not official yet, they've agreed to the terms of the deal. It's gonna take a day or so for everything to fall into place, medical records to be approved, and for the deal to be officially announced. You'll hear a lot more about it in the morning even if it's not official yet.

OK buddy. Go order your personalized Adrian Gonzalez jersey why dontcha. Quite the optimist you are. Whether you like it or not Theo and the Sox have shown a tremendous amount of interest in Beltre the past few days, and trading Lowell to make room for him has been rumored for a few days now. Whether or not it happens I can't guarantee, but that's what looks to be the case.

Lowell was a significant player in Red Sox history. He played a big part of the WS Title in 2007 and was one of the pieces in a very controversial trade.

Risky, but interesting. They got a talented hitter back, which is worth the money they ate, and I guess they figure they have options to replace either at 3B or 1B. And in fairness, they do, including Ramirez himself.

I'm hoping this doesn't mean we're just going to sign Beltre and pretend we've upgraded anything meaningful.

That said, I do not have a good feeling about this trade. It's a risk, and the backfire potential is high. Ramirez' performance last season also makes me nervous -- to win the trade, he has to perform, and he was totally neutralized last season. I would rather have seen them go after someone further away, a couple A-ballers say, than raise the specter of Casey Kotchman as our everyday 1B.

Yeah youre right, they might spin it for Halladay and then sign Beltre. Dont threaten me with a good time.

So you think......they traded Mike Lowell, paid his whole salary for a AAA catcher, only to sign Adrian Beltre and their done? You can laugh at me all you want, but they arent done yet.
