this has been debated ad nauseum. Couple things. This is likely either an initial salvo that Theo never had the tenacity to get through, or this is another tweak from the sox through the media to appease Red Sox fans.

Sure the Tigers can get Ellsbury, Buchholz and some top rated prospects in our system, but if they are they better be sending back Verlander and Miggy Cabrera haha

I don't believe so, since the Tigers asked the Yankees for Joba AND Hughes off the bat. Cashman just went farther with it then Theo.

I would have traded Ellsbury for Granderson straight up

That's not a good idea.

Granderson is not a lead-off hitter. You trade Granderson for Ellsbury and who leads off?

Thank God for Theo.

Granderson's bat/Defense >>> Ellsbury's bat/defense

Ellsbury isnt a leadoff hitter either , Tito had to flip flop the lineup all the time because of that

Granderson's .319 OBP as a leadoff hitter will look good in a Yank uniform.

He was at the second half of last year, for sure.

Have you checked Granderson's splits?

I suggest you do so.

He won't lead off. Nice bat to have 6th or 7th in the lineup though.

Granderson's a career 344 OBP , I like how you pick the bad year out

Granderson is also a career 828 OPS

Ellsbury is a singles hitter

Singles that turn into double with his ability to steal.

He cannot hit lefty pitching.

We cannot afford to have one of our OF's be a platoon player with Francona's genius game plans.

Remember how much you bitched and moaned about Francona sitting Drew against LHP last year?

It'd have been worse with Granderson. And it would have been warranted, which makes it even worse.

let's not forget Granderson's numbers are from Comerica which isn't exactly a bat friendly park. He will put up good numbers playing in Yankee stadium this year.

.614 lifetime OPS vs. LHP... Not much more that can be said. He shits the bed vs. LHP.

No one's saying he's not a good deal for the Yankees, but Ellsbury? C'mon.

It was a fit for the Yankees stadium-wise, lineup-wise (Jeter=lead-off hitter) and money wise.

Can you say the same about the Sox?

I don't think they should have made the trade, but would it really be a stretch money wise?

Ellsbury makes league-minimum. While it is a minor issue, it is still an issue.

Why the cherry-picking if you wouldn't have made the trade either anyway?

I don't understand why you're acting like I was challenging your post. I was asking a question.

Not the way i meant it. I was asking why you were asking the question if, in the bigger picture, you saw it the same way i did, and, you know fully well the Sox don't operate under the same monetary scheme as the Yanks (nobody does).

I don't think a trade like this has anything to do with the Yankees' monetary scheme. Sure, maybe there is some incentive not to increase payroll, but I think this is a trade a lot of teams could, and would make (financially).

OMG, enough with this money crap

the Sox if wanted to could spend a lot more than they currently do , they just choose not too

What if they wanted to trade for Halladay and sign Bay/Holliday?

No budget restraints?

Looking forward is important.

In the Sox's case, while i can't read Theo's mind, i assume he'll try to sign Adrian Beltre, one of Bay/Holliday and get at least one SP while dumping Lowell.

We are talking specifically about the Sox, and for the Sox, because of all the other needs they have and the lack of a lead-off hitter, it does not make sense. I never mentioned other teams.

That's fair.
