the limit is ********. Anyone who believes it is a fool in my opinion. The Yankees had the most profitable year EVER. So they are going to scale down? Get real. It's a PR move.

If this is the premise then I agree with you. I don't see the Yankees suddenly having a $185m payroll. If they do I'll be happy because it means the Sox likely get Holliday. I just don't see it happening.

I think their payroll can comfortably be in the $200m-plus range given their revenue, so that isn't a huge factor. I don't get the sense that Yankee ownership or FO feel any pressure to reduce payroll (because, really, what is reducing it to 185 going to do for anti-Yankee PR anyway? "Now they're only spending 40m-more than the second highest team! Yay, equality!" No.)

The Yankees don't and shouldn't care about that kind of PR. They have the money, they have the advantage, they will likely use it.

I imagine John Lackey getting a Burnett-like deal and going to NY and the Yankees swooping in at the last minute to land Holliday to play LF. I wouldn't put it past them to ALSO land Roy Halladay. :dunno:

That may be a bit much, example1.

Gom' date=' Posada is not a FA after next season. He signed a 4 yr deal.[/quote']

My bad. You're right. f*** him anyways.

By assuming worst case scenario I end up less disappointed. I bet I'm not the only Sox fan who does that re: the Yankees.

Boras is doing his usual posturing, but this time, he has absolutely no leverage. Everyone knows that Damon is not what he used to be and that he really is perfect for only one team, and that's NY. But the Yankees dont absolutely need him and they have other FA options that they can turn to. The Granderson trade changed the entire landscape of the offseason with our OF and DH spots. Hell, if I was Cashman, I'd pull all offers on the table and make a 1 yr $8 million offer to Matsui, Cameron, and Damon and see who bites first.

We all know which one would bite first, and he isn't the ideal choice. That's a bad idea.

I agree that it's a bad idea.

I'm not so sure I'd rather have Damon than Matsui. In fact, I think I'd rather have it the other way around.

Idk what all the hype with Cameron is. He's been mentioned with the Yankees for the past few years now, but I don't want him at all. He couldn't cut it in Queens, what makes people think he'll be productive here. The last thing we need is another old outfielder.

Well, Cameron is coming off two good years. Out of the center field position, his 2008 WAR was 4.0, and his 2009 WAR was 4.3. Granted, I don't think he's the best option, and he's pretty old, but he has been good as of late.

In Milwaukee.....

Well, it depends how much you want to read into that. He only spent two years in NY, both of which were OK years. If you want to put a lot of stock into where these guys performed, or where they didn't, (as opposed to their actual production) by all means. And while those facts might have merit, I don't think they should be the most important factor.

Agreed, considering his numbers with the Mets were right on par with his career numbers.

Also remember they want Damon back, but not at high value. You float that you aren't going to spend a ton of money and it puts even more pressure on him. If the Yankees want a $210 million payroll or more with the right players, then they can certainly do it.
