If every football game was like this one' date=' then "soccer" might be considered a real sport in the USA.[/quote']

I don't know, I don't think you can expect a culture that's embraced the physicality of a sport like American football to ever get on board with a sport in which a guy barely gets tripped and then proceeds to roll on the ground holding his ankle like he just broke it until the whistle blows, when he proceeds to get up and walk away. Even in such a well-played, and at times chippy, game, there was still plenty of that.. I very much enjoy watching good "soccer", but even I have trouble getting past some of those points.

Holy crap. Ghana had many chances to put the game away in extra time, including multiple shots from within the penalty box, and in the last minute, Ghana beat the goalie on a few headers and Suarez (a defender) slapped the ball out of the goal with his hand, and was given an immediate red card, giving Ghana a penalty kick to win the game before the game went to penalty kicks.

And Ghana (Gyan) ends up missing the penalty kick, which sends the game to penalty kicks and Gyan will have a shot at redemption. What a game.

What a game! That was an incredible finish. I very disappointed that Ghana didn't advanced. I feel like they deserve it more. Gyan could have ended the game on the penalty but it hit the post. In a way I'm kind of intrigued that he missed it because had he made it they were going to kill Suarez..literally.

Why? Suarez made a smart play. He doesn't handball it it's definitely a goal and they don't advance regardless.

Idk whether the ball crossed the line or not but if Gyan would have made the penalty kick a lot of people were going to be pissed. As you can see he went crying off the field.

I know, what I'm saying though is that had he not hand-balled it it would have gone into the net. What's the better scenario? Ghana scores a goal on that very play or Ghana has to make a PK for the goal?

Ah, i see what your saying. Now that i think about it that was a smart move even though he didn't do it intentionally. Had he not hand-balled game would have been over but with luck Gyan missed the penalty kick. He was so upset after the game i felt so bad.

I don't know about that. It looked like he could have gotten a head on the ball. Granted, it was probably instinctual to put his hands up to the ball (which technically would still negate it being a smart play), but it looks like the entire scenario could have been prevented had he used his head. It's not like Suarez had to reach out to get the ball, it was right at him.

I only saw one replay, somewhat from behind and it looked like the hand was the only sure fire way of keeping it out, but it really wasn't the best angle. The way I've heard people talk it seems as if it was the only way that ball wasn't going in. You'd know better than me, though, as I only saw that one angle.

It was a quick replay though, so it's still up for debate. I will say though, that if getting a hand on the ball was the only way to keep it from going in the net, then you're absolutely right, Suarez saved the day. And you know that he's going to get a load of crap that he probably doesn't deserve. I bet he feels bad enough as it is.

I just think from my viewpoint that the ball was right at him and that he could have gotten a header on it, but since Gyan missed the penalty kick and because Uruguay still advanced, I guess it doesn't matter. (Except that Suarez is suspended for the match vs. the Netherlands)

He probably could have hit it with his head but he was probably just in the moment. When they kicked the free kick another Ghana team member kicked it then it was blocked. Then another team member hit it and it bounce off a Uruguay player. That's when Suarez comes into play. It was a crucial moment since it was extra time and there was no time left for Uruguay to even come back.

Would you be offended if I said that I didn't read any of this because I was staring at your avatar?

Yeah, I saw their defence make a lot of mistakes vs. Mexico and their goalie just isn't very good. Combine that with the talent of all the "German" strikers (Klose, Ozil, Podolski) and you have trouble.

I thought Mexico was in control of the game prior to the 1st goal, the way offsides one. After that awful call, Mexico lost their heads for a bit, what with two yellows and a big mental lapse to allow the second goal. I think it's a completely different game if they got that right.

I think that what will doom Germany, if anything, is their yellow card total. They have 6 or so people coming into the game with yellow cards, and Mueller just got another so he'll miss the next match, while there are plenty of other key players who are close to missing the semi-final.

It's tough to score when players are selfish and take bad shots, but it's kind of almost worse when you over pass and don't even shoot at all, which is what Spain appears to be doing, IMO.

And Spain could have just as easily been down 1-0, but they save a penalty kick and score on one themselves. AND, it doesn't count because Spain was encroaching in the box, so Spain has to rekick the penalty shot.

AND IT GETS SAVED THE 2ND TIME!!!
