I think that this is a big trade for the Pirates. Rays IMO are not getting the same in return.

It was a salary dump for TB. Now, Zobrist takes the 2b position and they can fill their OF slots internally.

It was a very good deal for the Pirates. Akinori is a smart, solid ballplayer and I think he brings a lot more to the table than his numbers would indicate.

The White Sox acquired Mark Teahen from the Royals for Chris Getz and Josh Fields on November 6th.

 

According to a team press release, the Twins have exercised their 2011 option for Michael Cuddyer. They had until five days after the 2009 World Series to either pick up or decline the option. Cuddyer will earn $10.5MM in 2011 instead of a $1MM buyout

 

Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports that the two teams(Blue Jays and Diamondbacks) are discussing a Snyder for Lyle Overbay swap. He mentions that it's "unclear how far along the trade talks are."

Anyone following the Wagner Mateo story? I have read this kid is a real talent. But there is some controversy over his vision or something. But I guess he has had laser surgery now and is ready to go. Anyone think the Sox should swoop and and give the kid the 3-5M it would likely take to sign him while some of the other interested parties stand by?

The Mets are close to signing free agent catcher Henry Blanco, reports Adam Rubin of the New York Daily News.

Rubin cites Venezuelan newspaper "El Nacional" as saying Blanco had left the country Sunday for a physical with the Mets. Blanco, 38, was believed to be weighing offers between the Mets and White Sox, but will likely sign on with New York for a one-year deal. The Mets still intend to find a No. 1 catcher, and have been linked in rumors with Bengie Molina.

 

Molina & Blanco behind the plate would be quite the upgrade over this past season's Brian Schneider & co.

Didnt see this mentioned anywhere. The Mariners have emerged as the front runners for Chone Figgins. The deal could be 4 years, more than $30 million. They are also said to be making a strong push for Jason Bay as well. Suzuki, Figgins, Bay at top of the order if that were to happen
