Haven't found a link yet but listening to DC101's "Elliot in the Morning" and they reported Phillips has signed himself in to some sort of rehab to work out his "personal issues". But I haven't found a link yet so digest with salt.

Edit:

Steve Lefkowitz, Phillips' representative, said in an e-mail that his client "is voluntarily admitting himself to an inpatient treatment facility to address his personal issues, and informed ESPN of his plans Friday."

Who's going to do sunday and monday night baseball now?

Who cares, Phillips a tool. Maybe they keep the "white hair former GM" theme going and bring in Towers.

OMG!! That is awesome that you listen to Elliot in the Morning. Love him. I heard it too. A reporter blogging during last night's game for the Boston Globe mentioned it as well:

UPDATE, 8:28 p.m.: Crowd was hanging on every pitch in the first inning and Pettitte looked sharp. Meanwhile, two interesting baseball tidbits from today: Mark McGwire will be the hitting coach of the Cardinals and ESPN has canned Steve Phillips. One disgraced figure is out, another comes back.

No big shock his wife filed for divorce. Won't miss him on ESPN.

I won't miss him, and the problems are all directly resulting from his own behavior. He banged some ugly 22-year-old whale in favor of his wife, who I can't say I've seen, but not much can be worse than a 22-year-old whale. Anyhow, Steve Phillips won't be missed by anyone on ESPN, and the man's a sexual deviant to add to the reasons why everyone hates him. Thank you, 22-year-old whale lady, for getting Steve Phillips off of ESPN. And good God, whoever said it, don't bring in Towers.

Yeah, let's not be too quick to absolve the woman though. Sounds like a Grade A nut. Phillips should have known better sure but I'd like to know what she thought she was doing too.

She's a girl who looks like a guy, what else is there to know? She was probably a little desperate, and Steve Phillips is probably the only guy who would hit that. I mean, we're talking about a dude who said the '08 Tigers had the best lineup in history, Steve Phillips could have easily thought "That's the most beautiful girl in the world right there"

If you're going to risk your job and marriage on an affair, wouldn't you want to do it with something atleast a tenfold better than that?

If he has a legitimate problem' date=' I hope he finds a way to work through it.[/quote']

he is a tool, the only reason he has a "problem" is to try and save face with the public by writing it off as a disease like "alcoholism" being a disease, its just a way to keep him from looking so bad.

Like Destroyah says, it's not a real problem, and is sort of a way to gather somewhat of a sympathy. His only problem is himself, and now he's going to go to treatment and pass it off as him being an alcoholic or a having a drug problem. Alcohol doesn't make you have a full-blown affair, it makes you have a one-night-stand maybe, but an affair? Nah. I'll pass on that one. Steve Phillips is nothing more than an idiot, that's his problem.

All I heard is that he is going into rehab. If he's a sex addict (remember, this isn't the first affair he's had) then I hope he can get over that. I believe in personal accountability just as much as the next guy, but if he is actually addicted to sex it's a good thing he is going to get help.

*Cue the "you can never have too much sex" jokes...

The looks of the woman is pretty irrelevant here. It wouldn't matter if she was a beauty queen, Phillips still should have kept his pants zipped and she'd still be a Grade A nut.

Adultery with a looker is still adultery.

Steve Phillips sucked as a GM, carried himself like a flaming ******* on ESPN and now they bag him stepping out on his bride with a f***ing beast that I wouldnt piss on if she were on fire.

What a jackoff

I don't think that I ever said it was relevant, bud. I said she was homely, and that if you're going to risk losing a lot, atleast do it with someone who doesn't look like... That

You've still lost everything you were going to lose no matter what the fling looks like. I mean, I get the joke and all? but that's hardly the most important consideration right now.

And you're still apparently operating under the assumption that it was his idea. I know our society automatically blames the man, but I wouldn't guess which was the initiating party without more evidence than I have. It's entirely possible that what we have here is a "social climber" that took advantage of a susceptible man in a senior position in an effort to improve her own status. It wouldn't be the first time.

You completely are missing the point, I never said it was smart, but don't do it with ol' Moby Chick here

He has control over his dick, and everything else. There's not excuse for f***ing someone else when you can lose absolutely everything. Stop trying to act like Phillips should be mollycoddled. He's not insane (Although he isn't the smartest man alive, by any means), so the fact that he even considers cheating on his wife or whatever makes him a sexual deviant. There's no reason that we should simply say "Awwww, Steve, it's okay, you're an old fart, and you should be given special treatment because of it."

Posted

Course not. I agree with this. I'm not really trying to call for special treatment for Phillips. just asking why the heck none of us are doing or saying anything about the behavior of this woman? Pointing out that it takes two to screw isn't "asking for special treatment." It's the reverse, if anything.

And don't give me that she was in a disempowered position in the workplace. She had power enough to bring Phillips down with a lawsuit rather than do the horizontal mambo if she chose, and she sure exercised her power after they broke it off. To date she's exercised her power to finish off his marriage, job and reputation and put him in treatment for sex addiiction. Now she had this power because he put it in her hands with his choices, but let's not be too loud or too quick to proclaim this woman an innocent victim either.

I guess the reason we're not lumping the woman in is because either she's a clear crazy case or she just isn't as well known?

OR maybe because that he still has complete control of his penis, and that he didn't have to do jack s*** with her. Why, oh why, do you think that she had power over him, to make him have sex with her, in the first place? Because she threatened him? If he didn't do anything, she doesn't have a case. It's his word against hers, and guess what? She's f***ing 22 years old.

As opposed to the woman, who obviously didn't and couldn't??????????? Is that what you're saying here? Somehow I don't think it is.

WHICH IS EXACTLY WHY I'm asking this question. We are way too quick to blame the man when something like this comes up. You're already using the language of victims when referring to this woman. FOR ALL WE KNOW SHE IS A SLUTASAURUS REX!! Please keep that thought firmly in mind. (or, you know. don't... eww...)

Anyway, let's try for a little actual gender equality here. They were both idiots and neither of them had any business doing what they were doing before and after the relationship, and the evidence suggests to me that either both of them are victims or neither of them are. Take your pick.

He was married, she was not.

Not too much else to say about it.

Huh. Guess it's my religion speaking then, becuase the only difference in my mind between married and unmarried in matters like this is the fact that a married adulterer is hurting more than himself.
