What I don't understand is....why can't it be both? Arod wanted to get top dollar. He went to Texas and couldn't endure last place. He manuevered a trade, first to Boston and then to New York. He opted out of NY and realized it was a big mistake as he took a huge P.R. hit and coupled with the fact that he would make less money in what could have been the worst contract move a player made since Juan Gonzalez. The Yankees allowed him to save face.

I don't see why a player can't factor both in to varying degrees. I'm guessing a bit here, since I've never been in the same situation, but if I was a player I'd want win and make money. Would I take less to play for a contender? It depends. How much money have I made in my career? How old am I? Is this the last contract of my career? What's best for my family?

To try to figure out what goes through a persons head when you don't know that person is arrogant and foolhardy.

Seriously?

WHEN THE BEST PLAYER EVER AT A PARTICULAR POSITION IS WILLING TO CHANGE POSITIONS TO PLAY FOR A CONTENDER IT'S OBVIOUSLY FOR THE MONEY, RIGHT?

You're an idiot man.

The best shortstop ever (or would have been)? You actually believe that?

What the f*** did you think I meant? Dipshit.

Ya damn right bitch...I'm comin for YOU!!!

G-MONEY YO JAJAJAJAJAJA

f***in wiggers annoy the piss out of me.

I could be wrong but I don't recall Jacko ever saying the Sox system was "weak," just that it wasn't as strong anymore. There's a difference, bud.

Okay, thin. Better?

There's a difference between not having any meaningful prospects likely to debut this year, and not having any meaningful prospects. Bud.

And your only response to anything he has said has been 'Your a Yankee fan so what you say doesnt matter' in so many words. And when given the chance to refute his claims and analysis your response was 'No I don't have to....you're a Yankee fan with a biased opinion' (again, in so many words).

Why do you think the jacko table exists? Do you know what it is?

I'd make one up for you, but every post of yours is barely comprehensible slobber no matter what the discussion/context.

Did you read the link he provided by Benjamin from The Globe? I didn't see you attacking her analysis.

Yes.

She also apparently doesn't understand a farm system isn't thin if it has a year or two gap in between OMGWTFBBQ prospects making debuts.

What a clown...

If whatever reason Holliday dosen't sign with the Yankees they will most likely offer Jason Bay a contract.

I don't see them bringing back Damon, his offensive numbers are getting worse (granted his HR's are up because of the short right porch in Yankees stadium, though in the cold weather the ball dosen't carry as well so he's pretty worthless in the post season) and his throwing arm isn't so good.

I don't seem them going after Xavier Nady ether coming off his season ending injury.

Oh yup he would have made less money elsewhere but went back to NY for teh pinstrypes and teh viktoreez!!

Holy f***, did I ever deny that both could play a factor?

Winning can be a factor, but for a quality free agent, it almost never topples top dollar.

lol

I don't need to know everyone to know that 99% of them want the money. That is what we call 'common sense'.

Hate to say it, but the Yankees fan is right. Sometimes players will make decisions based on whether or not the team is a contender.

You guys are both making your points foolishly though. Why are you spelling everything wrong? It just makes me want to disagree with both of you.

players go to teams for money a lot of times. Boras is just saying he wants to go the yankees to drive up the price of Holliday.

I dont think Holliday wants to be a yankee more than he wants to be on any other contending team, he just wants to get paid and he knows that thats the best place to make cash.

I realize Scott Boras is Scott Boras. But the conversation had clearly moved to more general terms and I was just giving my two cents.

Did I not say that? The vast majority of decisions are based on the money. Vast majority/99%/whatever =/= all/every/no exceptions.

It's ridiculous how Yankee fans turned one of Boras' obvious money-making schemes into "Everyone wants to play for the Yankees, TRADITION, GLORY, PINSTRIPES!!!!!", get over yourselves, it's just another one of Boras' tactics.

Hey *******, it's ok to respecfufully disagree but I do actually believe that he was arguably the best all-around shortstop ever. If you want to be a prick and say Honus Wagner then go ahead, I wouldn't argue that, but as an ALL-AROUND player, on both sides of the ball (that means offensive and defensive you mental midget) A-Rod was stellar as a shortstop.

What are you even trying to say? You pretty much sum up the stereotypical white-boy, red-haired, abercrombie-wearing, RACIST piece of New England s*** that I despise so much you Slayer-loving motherf***er. It's the scrotum-suckers like you that infuriate me to the point of irrationality on this board. And don't ever call me a wigger bro, you don't know the first thing about me.

The sad part about all of this is I don't even want Matt Holliday on the Yankees, truthfully.

Wow 26...probably the best post you ever had.

Take that, TalkSox bitches. Especially you Emmz...you got spanked. Hard. With a paddle. Bent over a knee. Naked.

Ok, it's time to stop.

 I missed this before. You would say some s*** like that Gom.
