Somebody will win the game, but the real winner will be ESPN. Regardless of the outcome, they'll turn this into a week's worth of psychobabble and feaux sports analysis (except for Jaworski, that guy's analysis is the tits).

Another winner is the Metrodome for hosting the two biggest sporting events in the US in those two days: Monday Night Football and a potential one game playoff.

Are they playing the potential one game playoff on Tuesday because they want it to be in prime time, or because they can't play a baseball and football game there in the same day?

I'd guess both, but mainly the latter.

Alright, because it was only because of prime time, I'd say it's kind of unfair that they wouldn't get a day off before the playoffs. Obviously I'm happy about that, but I think it's unfair to put the winner at a disadvantage simply to play the game in prime time.

I thought I remembered a Twins game and a Gophers game being played the same day.

AD's going to kick ass, as usual. Brett Favre is going to go 300% against his old team, he wants this win more than anyone. I think it's going to be close, but I'm a homer on this one. Vikes all the way!

Kudos, J_E. This is the first football thread created where you didn't express your irrational hate of the Patriots.

Okay, I am so psyched for this tonight. I will watch it one way or another, just gotta figure out how (No freaking cable), but I will. Brett's going to kick some ass tonight hopefully, I hate the Packers with every fiber of my being, and we have to win our games against them this year with Brett. 4-0 is a good start, and I think we have a legitimate chance at winning 11-12 games this season

I dunno what to do about tonight's game. I can see either team winning a close game. I plan on putting some money down on the game but I don't know if I should tease it and move the over/under with the line or just pick the line straight up. Damn.

Whatever you do, pick the Vikes! Wooooo!

:D

The Vikes are probably going to be favored by around 3 or 4, so I'm debating teasing it and taking the Packers at +9 or +10 and moving the over/under accordingly. Or I could take the Vikes at +2 or +3 but that makes less sense I feel.

I think the Vikings will win. The Packers do not have the 9ers D so they will not be able to shut AP or Favre for that matter. But with all of this said, crazier things have happened.

It could

Favre's the king of INT

Yeah he is, and the Packers want his head right now, but with that being said, Favre is going to play at about 300% like I said before. He wants this really, really bad.

No one can stop AD, no one. You can only hope to contain him, but that's about it. I see AD having a big night, and Favre as well. I think it'll be a close game, but the Vikes are gonna win it. My inner homer will not let me think otherwise. I am sorry.

I'd like to think that Favre was playing at about "300%" when he made one of his classic, awful decisions in OT in the 2008 NFC Championship Game. I'd also like to think the effort was there when he made what might have been the worse decision of his entire career in the 2004 NFC Divisional Playoff Game.

The Vikings might win this game, and Favre might play well, but it will have absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he is playing the Packers.

Really? You don't think there's a chance he won't play harder due to the fact that he wants this more than anything right now? I think when you leave a team under bad circumstances, chances are, the next time you play them, and especially in a game such as football, you're going to give it everything, and then some.

Brett Favre had a big year with the Packers, and he wanted to come back, and they gave him nothing. They were smart by not letting him go to the Vikings, I'll admit that, but when your star player wants to play another year, and is still evidently at the top of his game, you don't just tell him that there's no place for him. It was said that they even tried to buy him off into retiring. How tacky is that?

I think with what happened there, Favre wants this game, probably more than anything else. I'm not saying that's a good thing or a bad thing, but Favre wants to beat the Packers a lot.

Then, why, in games where you would expect his maximum effort, did he come up so small? Or is this Week 4 game more important than playoff games, because Brett Favre is mad at the Green Bay Packers?

Maybe he wants this game more than other regular season games, but it won't help them win.

And, considering Favre's reputation, it's possible that him trying so hard might lead to more stupid risks.

You're picking a few instances where he probably could have tried harder, and you're shunning his performances in the Super Bowl

He has a career Super Bowl passer rating of 97.6 with 506 yards in two games, as well as 6 TD's, one rushing

Don't tell me Brett Favre doesn't come up big in games, because he does. Remember the game after his father died, where he threw for 399 yards and 4 TDs?

I don't think he could have tried harder in those instances. I think he effort in those games was as high as it possibly could be. I just think that, in the end, talent and decision making are going to win out over all the other things. No matter how hard he tries, from time to time, and much more frequently at this stage of his career, Brett Favre is going to make an awful decision.

Also, when did I say he doesn't show up in big games? However, for what it's worth, I can show you a fair amount of playoff games where Brett played poorly.

When you want something more than anything else, you tend to give it a little more than what you usually do. It's the reason why in the playoffs, certain players step up, Joe Montana being the best example of this. I don't think that Brett Favre is literally going to give a 300% performance and not be able to play to his full ability, or miraculously turn into Superman. If that's what you're interpreting this as, you've got it wrong. I think this game means more to him than it does to anyone else out there, rivalry considered.

Also, when did I say he doesn't show up in big games? However, for what it's worth, I can show you a fair amount of playoff games where Brett played poorly.

How does referring to poor performances in a few big games not imply that he doesn't show up for big games?

Those just happen to be big games, but it could just be coincidental. I don't know, I'm not going to say it was what you were saying, but it surely seemed as though that's what was implied.

And, again, I can supply many key games where Brett Favre DID play spectacularly. It happens to the best of us. However, in the biggest game of them all, Brett Favre played pretty well as a whole.
