Dice-K teases us yet again.

Welcome back.

I hope Daisuke can maintain this level of velocity. 91-93 should be enough to keep his offspeed stuff effective.

if he does are playoff rotation is set. and him being "fresh" is a really good thing for the playoffs.

Pettitte missing his next start due to fatigue is huge for the Sox.

Plus only 6.5 Back in the East would like to see that number be 3 or 4 by the end if not better.

I thought i saw him touch 94-95??? I was watching on the FS Angels because I'm in LA and I think they might use diifferent guns.

Gameday says mostly 93. I dunno, he might have touched 95 when I wasn't paying attention. If so, that's huge. He was hitting that velocity when he first came to the states and during the period when he was at his most dominant and his loss of that velocity was a big reason for his faltering.

i saw 94 once. but i was more impressed by Bard three pitches one faster than the next. i have the mlbtv thing for my dads itouch and it puts decimals on the speed.

99.6 mph

100.1 mph

100.3 mph

Impressive. i know he throws hard its just still amazing that he can do it and have the control to go with it.

He might have touched that but I believe he hit 91-93 with the most consistency.

Bard seems to impress me more everytime I see him pitch, he has the potential to be far better than Paps, Im not on the "get rid of Paps" wagon Im just saying the kid is going to be absolutely Lethal here in the next few years.

oh definitely he will be amazing in the next few years. with his offspead and fastball which prolly scares some hitters to death. i would love to see him as setup for years. i love papelbon and i think his energy will always mean paps a closer.

i think if dice-k loses more weight and turns it into muscle he will pitch faster and harder speed wise and make him better. the Dunkin Donuts diet just isn't working.

I really don't think he looks fat. Do you guys think he is???

Also, that Dunkin Donuts diet works really well.

About the best they could have hoped for out of Dice-K. I liked the increase in FB's coupled with the less "nibbling" with the CB's on the corners. He seemed to be a little more aggressive in the zone last night. And he had more success with it. If he was on a regular PC last night he probably could have gone 7 plus innings and that I believe would have been the first time this season. So ya, pretty much his best start of the year IMO.

Last night you could hear 10,000,000 Yankee fans mumble ohhhhhh shiiittt after the DiceMan cometh.

Great effort and if this works out as planned you gotta hi five the organization for its sheer brilliance in sitting this guy for 3 months and letting him work things out.

Anaheim plays good baseball, theyre hotter than a bullsdick in the barnyard and score a lot of runs and looked absolutley lost at the plate last night.

this will be huge if hes capable of giving us 6IP with a sub 3 era down the stretch

How he does down the stretch is really only important for the team to regain enough confidence in him to use him in the playoffs. There is no stretch run here, because the Rangers have eliminated themselves. He could be a factor in the post season. The organization should be re-examining their decision to let him pitch in the WBC which essentially wrecked his season. A healthy Dice K would have helped this team win the Division, and taking into consideration their lousy road play that would have been huge. It will be the lack of the home field advantage that will be the biggest obstacle for the Sox in the post season.

I dont know how 11ip in march would f*** him up as badly as it did but something was wrong.

Rumors of being out of shape, refusing to handle the work load assigned to him by the sox pitching guru's and just plain dead arm syndrome were flying around but we still have no valid explanation as to why he sucked as incredibly as he did. When Penny and Smoltz sucked and Wake was shelved it had to have been tempting to throw him back into the fire but they didnt panic and hopefully now he has a more aggressive attitude going into October, it was his 1st start that i didnt have to channel surf by the 2nd inning.

The WBC is building a good record for messing up pitchers. Dice K is not the only one. The Red Sox realy could not have put him back in the rotation any earlier. The guy had an 8 1/2 ERA when he was DL'd. His rehab starts have been nothing to brag about. In one, he got tuned up in the 1st inning. I'm not going to get excited about him unless he is able to build on this performance with consistency in the next 2 starts.

Personally, I hope he has a huge post-season and then the Sox move him for King Felix like Example has been proposing. I think his shoulder is going to explode way before his contract is up.

I would rather they not move him for "he who shall not be named" (HWSNBN). I only brought up that possibility because people were saying he is untradeable. I would much rather they empty the farm or move another player as that marquee piece. I'm still convinced that if all is going well, Dice-K is one of the better pitchers in the league.

Beckett, Lester, "HWSNBN", Dice-K, Buchholz

Yum.

Drool...

If the Sox get HWSNBN, does that end Beckett's tenure in Boston after 2010?

Be great to have both going forward, but I can't imagine it will be too cheap though.

Posted

It depends on Beckett. The Sox will likely offer him what they think he is worth and Beckett can either take it or not. I imagine he will get some very lucrative offers and I would guess he has some interest in returning to pitch in Texas at some point (Rangers or Astros).

Beckett is hard to figure out. He's one of the best pitchers in the game, one of the best big game pitchers in history, but his stuff is pretty two dimensional and he has occasional periods of being very hittable. HWSNBN is a better overall pitcher and you be very young. He could certainly anchor the staff with Lester and Buchholz if Beckett decided he wanted the biggest payday possible.

Of course, the Sox may decide that they simply can't let Beckett go and be dominant for another team. He's proven to be durable and he pitches very well in Boston. The FO may determine that his value to them is too high to not offer him an enormous contract. Frankly, I would have no problem with he and HWSNBN getting deals approaching $20m. Poor Jon Lester and his reasonable contract though...

Posted

There's nothing poor about Jon Lester lol

It would be hard to let Beckett hit the open Market. The Yankees would surely be sniffing around.

Can you imagine what it might be like with both Beckett and Mauer possibly on the market at the same time?
