So glad we didn't make that trade.

Mets players said Monday they expect Johan Santana will require surgery on his left elbow to repair whatever malady has prompted the club to scratch the pitcher from his scheduled start against the Marlins in Miami on Tuesday. Instead of making his 26th start, Santana is to have his elbow examined Tuesday.

The Mets offered minimal information about the problem that manager Jerry Manuel said began to develop before the All-Star break. But Mike Pelfrey, Santana's fellow starter, said, "I don't think anyone expects good news." And Jeff Francouer said he anticipates Santana will require surgery after speaking with the pitcher.

Other players said Santana seems resigned to surgery.

Manuel acknowledged being "terribly concerned," that Santana had experienced pain in the elbow in recent starts though "not at this level," the level he experienced in his most recent start, Thursday against the Braves. The manager also indicated Santana had not done normal between-starts throwing for an extended period

Damn it, i should be allowed to post a funny picture every once in awhile.

A "Pre-emptive strike" pic here would be phenomenal.

Gom, I brought you a plate of something deeeelicious.

So, the only "lost" yr of Santana production was 2008, a season in which we were decimated by injury and likely to not have won a WS even with Santana.

For 2009 and 2010, though, we'd be f***ed. 2009, we wouldnt have Hughes setting up and we wouldnt have Sabathia since Santana would be the lefty ace we've missed. And for 2010, we'd be without our ace and our projected #5 starter. Enjoy the crow.

The deal that Cashman turned down was:

Santana

for

Melky Cabrera

Hilligoss

Marquez

Kennedy

Even if Santana retired at this point....it was a win for the Yankees. Still is. Always will be.

End of Story.

In Gom's defense, hindsight arguments are pretty damn stupid, specially when they're made regarding the Mets, we're talking about a franchise that, if they launched a frozen yogurt brand, half the world would become lactose intolerant, and if they launched a store of silver artifacts, a month later, a study would discover silver to be the cause for Cancer.

In Jacko's defense, Gom's "I watch the gamezzzzzz sources" are wrong as usual, any transaction with the Twins needed The Phuture.

I'd say these two are pretty even in the stupidity department, with a slight edge to Jacko and his hindsight Cashman ballwashing.

At NO point has Cashman ever confirmed that ridiculously piddly package. Cashman has always maintained that Hughes was a necessity in the deal and he wasnt comfortable with losing him. AND, dealing for Santana would have sabotaged 2009 and 2010. So yes, dealing for him would have been only a Gom idea with the info we have now. (translation...Gom=stupid)

What amazes me is that supposedly he had discomfort in his arm for a while now, and the Mets continue using him every 5 days, even with them out of the playoff race. That's madness.

First of all, you are a dumbass if you think that a GM would admit a mistake. He'd be fired on the spot if he confirmed that mistake.

I've linked it before, so will you STFU already? I've got to search and find it again, but if I post the link again, will you admit your boy wonder GM f***ed up? It's not exactly my fault you can't read. By the way...where is Kennedy? How about Marquez or Hilligoss? Is Melky the answer in CF? It was a long article after the Mets deal was made...and I'll search for it.

Either way..what an incredible f*** up by the Mets. Rather then spend $3 million and get two picks, they gave it away.

It might be possible that the two dumbest baseball people are both GMs in New York.

this is quite possibly the worst post in talksox history

its all moot anyway. Santana only needs arthroscopic surgery' date=' he'll be back next year[/quote']

Read the ulnar nerve has no damage as well. Jacko crashes and burns again.

Posted
Dipre, stick to law. Tommy John surgery replaces the ulnar collateral ligament. Not the nerve. Sometimes you need to transposition the nerve due to pain, but that is a different surgery altogether. Also, when they get into the elbow, they will get a chance to see how strong the UCL is. AND, I was going off the reports saying he needed Tommy John. So, yeah, go screw

Funny, it doesn't say "Tommy John" anywhere in the report Dojji posted

Posted
he said the ulnar nerve is okay. That isnt what they were checking for. They were checking for a UCL tear. They dont care about the nerve unless it requires transposition.

What does it matter? They said the problem is bone chips.

Posted
Yes' date=' they did. They also said yesterday that he would need TJ. That is what I was going off of. And in terms of Dipre, the nerve was never the issue[/quote']

They FEARED he would need TJ. I just think the "AHHHHHHHHHHHHROFLCOPTER TOLD YOU GOM!!!!!!! SUCK ON MY CROWWWWWWWWWW" to Gom was a bit premature.

Although I'd still like to see proof that Cashman turned down a package of Cabrera + bag boys for Santana

I think we will never see that, since this matter was handled as rumors. So we should have to ask Cashman, and he would probably give you a typical GM answer, saying something but saying nothing.
