Oh. Sorry.

That's why it was merged.

Probably would be better just to post this in the othre thread but this is not a "duplicate" thread' date='[/quote']

I made a simple observation and request to a young, new member and used the word please.

Given the absence of a Mod at the time, I saw no harm in mentioning it.

Then the youngster comes back with a defensive post using flawed logic.

To boot, you now say that the threads were not "duplicates" of each other?

"Wagner"

"Wagner claimed by the Red Sox"

You're right. Absolutely no commonality of theme. How did I miss this?

I think I'll post a new thread:

"Wagner takes a s***"

I'll wait four hours and allow 22 posts to be made.

Then I'll post a new thread:

"Wagner flushes the toilet"

This is completely logical as they are separate, unrelated events.

See, I understand now.

I like the move because RR and MDC have been s***ing the bed A lot lately

I too would like the move. You just can never, ever have too much quality pitching.

I don't fully grasp the waiver wire deals. As I understand, an NL team has first dibs and in the case of multiple NL team claims, the team with the poorest record is awarded the claim.

But wait, the Mets can still pull him back!

And, Wagner has a no trade clause. Which in this case may work in the Sox's favor.

We'll see!

In their current scheme of things, it seems they never have enough relievers. They are using 3 or 4 every game--win or lose. Part of the problem is they have no long relievers--everybody throws an inning. I don't think that's very good policy. You have to have a couple of guys who can pitch 2-3 innings in the middle of a game. Especially when most of your starters are only going 100 pitches and 5 innings.

They have put together a strong bullpen this year, but how they are using it is a separate issue.

I have heard a rumor from several reliable sources that the Mets are in financial distress. I don't think the Mets will be interested in getting a prospect. They will just want to be free up from the financial burden. If the Red Sox nickel and dime them by trying to get the Mets to take some of the remaining salary, the Yankees will be waiting in the wings. If the Yankees get him because our guys don't want to take the full salary, that would be a tremendous cluster f***.

That's impossible.

If the Mets pull him back, he can't be traded.

And if you'll look, I agreed with you that it was a SIMILAR thread and that the content that started the post probably should have been posted in the other thread. A merger wouldn't be a tragedy. It is not, however, a DUPLICATE thread.

Am I the only one that sees a difference between a thread where the OP said thataccording to an unconfirmed rumor an MLB team might have placed a claim on Wagner, and a thread which confirmed that it was the Sox?

Frankly the thread Gosawk's thread was merged with probably belonged in MLB discussion, while Gosawk's thread clearly belonged here. there's no difference in the threads? Really?

You're right. If they don't pull him back and the Red Sox can't make a deal for him, the Red Sox would still have to take him and pay his full salary. The Mets will let the time expire and hand him to the Sox, and the Sox will have to pay his entire salary.

And I for one have no trouble paying for a lefthander like Wagner on a low risk deal.

The team option really makes it a deal where the Sox would be hard pressed to lose. If Wagner is lights out down the stretch this year, take the option and have a heck of a setup man to pitch for you in 2010. If he isn't, don't pick up the option, and he's out of your way for the following season.

The only way you really lose in this thing is if you take the option and he sucks next year.

Yeah, Wilpon lost a bundle in the Madoff scandal. I read $700 million. The Mets were spending pre-season, buying a closer and setup guy (Putz was a salary dump). But they are in a different mode now. Minaya will have to work for his salary. Sports is a hobby for owners, and when they get squeezed financially, the hobby goes first.

I think they have until Tuesday sometime to get a deal done.

Oh ok.. i think i read that he wants a lot of money or for the Sox to pick up his next year contact or something. I cant remember now. i really hope he is worth it if they get him.

Tuesday at 1:00.

I was reading somewhere today that Wagner's agent has said that Wagner has OKed the move to the Sox and will be ok with set-up for this year because he wants a shot at a WS.

But next year he wants to close because he needs 15 more saves to set a record.

Also in the article it was stated that the Mets want one prospect in trade.

Sorry that I can't link the article. I can't remember where I saw it!

Pap should shut up. The media is now trying to create a conflict between Pap and Wagner.

Too much individualism on the Red Sox. Not enough team. Maybe that says something about the management.

If Pap doesn't shut up, he will write his ticket out of Boston.
