No Pedroia for Wednesday's game and possibly Thursday's game as well. If he misses Thursday's game, he'll have exceeded Bay's family leave.

considering the difficulties he and his wife had during the pregnancy, I'd probably refrain from any hint at criticizing Pedroia for whatever time he'll end up missing

I am big on family values. I believe that the children are our future. Imagine the incalculable damage that the child might suffer not to mention self esteem issues that could be caused by the father not spending at least three full days with the baby after the birth. I would also suggest a weekend getaway with spouse and child. We are wonderful parents in this country. Almost 100% of fathers attend the birth of their children. Unfortunately, by the time they are school age, 60% are medicated for ADD, ADHD, OCD or ODD. An even greater percentage of children are cared for during the day by non-family members. Save me "the we have to care for our families" false piety.

That's so far from what I'm preaching. I'm saying the guy deserves the choice to spend all the time he needs to with his wife and kid right now especially considering his wife didn't exactly have a problem-free pregnancy...

Stupidest post you have ever made on this site.

You're sick. Go get help.

Haha, what a devastating right hook.

BoSox21 on shaky knees....

Shame on you for turning it into a joke.

go easy on him, I think he missed the early bird special at Sizzler

Why is he sick, out of curiosity?

Is not being with his child for 36 hours really going to cause irreparable damage?

His wife has had complications throughout the pregnancy.

Logic would dictate he would want to be with his wife and child during this time.

When the f*** are some of you going to learn that ballplayers aren't robots?

Baseball is a JOB, and employment laws give the worker the choice to take leave for the birth of their childs.

Or what?

We back to slavery, champ?

Absolutely Dipre.

What Dustin Pedroia is experiencing is one of the most significant experiences a responsible and well adjusted human being can look forward to. He needs to be with his wife and son.

Three days off is normally accepted by employers (everyone I know has had this benefit) so why not Dustin? Family is paramount. Baseball is entertainment.

I don't see how any human being can not see this.

i don't know the details, but I believe the Family Leave Act is applicable here.

I hope he isn't getting paid to stay with the kid.
Family leave mandated under the Law doesn't require an Employer to pay the employee while on leave. As a benefits attorney for a Fortune 100 Company, I can tell you that he would have to take his accrued vacation time if he wanted to get paid. As far as I know baseball players don't get vacation during the season. I wonder how many days he would spend reveling in the wonder of life that he has created if he had to take the time without pay. He probably makes about $30,000 to $50,000 a game. If it cost him $90- 150 k, his family values would go right out the window.

This is possibly your stupidest post. You are equating playing baseball for millions of dollars with slavery? You do realize that the slave didn't get paid ... right?

That's a very presumptuous statement to make. Besides, the guy has a $41 million contract, I doubt he'd care about $100k enough to miss the birth of his kid and the peace of mind of knowing his wife and kid made it through the birth without complications.

The man who can't maintain a relationship for more than 3 months is going to lecture us on these issues. You gotta love it.

I really don't get this. The guy played the final two months of the 2007 season with a broken hand and didn't tell anyone. Why is it being presumed that he's all about money when it comes to playing this sport?

I'm at a loss here a700.

As one of may favorite members (one with whom I share significant commonality), I have to say that I am somewhat alarmed at your stance here.

This is a humanity "issue". Baseball is just not important when juxtapositioned with the birth of a child.

And, whatever the CBA may dictate, I'm confident Pedroia would gladly sacrifice several days pay to be with his wife and child.
