I see some names have been mentioned in multiple threads. Thought we could group them in here.

Reds shortstop Alex Gonzalez has cleared waivers and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports hears that the Red Sox may be interested. The extent of their interest isn't clear, but Rosenthal says they're considering Gonzalez and other options as they try to solidify the shortstop position. Now that Gonzalez has cleared waivers, the Reds can trade him to any club.

Gonzalez, 32, makes $5.4MM this year and is hitting .210/.258/.296.

The Red Sox showed brief interest in Bill Hall. The Brewers haven't yet placed shortstop J.J. Hardy on waivers and it's unclear if they'd trade him now, while he's in the minors.

So right now the options for possible SS acquisitions are,

Guzman

Hall

Gonzo

With Hardy a maybe down the line.

Alex Gonzalez did a fine job when he was here, but that was a career year. I have no desire to see him back. He is not an upgrade on Green.

Bill Hall would be an interesting gamble. He hit well once and might again. The downside of Hall is a fairly useful big league super utility man. Give or take Green, Hall's at least an upgrade over Woodward, so that's a guy I'd go for even if I didn't stop at him.

I'm not sure if we got Hall he'd be the starting SS. I think he might wind up replacing Woodward, who also has limited SS experience.

I think an upgrade of Hall over Woodward is significant and doesn't get in the way of an attempt to replace Nick Green with yet another SS.

Tony Mazzzzzz is reporting that the Sox have acquired him. What they gave up is unknown. He's owed $2 mil with a $6 mil option for 2010. Expect Woodward to take his two HBPs right on out of town

Shhh. Green Sux is the party line around here' date=' better not to rock the boat.[/quote']

Shhh, he's the valedictorian of the class of Dojji-type prospects. Nobody expects anything other than you defending his merits.

Yeah, and the Yankees are 4-2 in games started by Sergio Mitre, but nobody clamoring for him to be starting any more than he already is. W/L with a player in the lineup is absurd, especially when that player sucks as much as Nick Green does.

Padilla is a man's man. He overcame the Swine to come back and freeze the Mariners bats. Make it happen Theo or it's your head!!!!

Weren't you complaining about getting pitchers off the scrap heap?

The Sox are about to be on that scrap heap so what difference would it make?

It's because he kills the FO for Penny and Smoltz type acquisitions. But wants to hit the panic button for Padilla.

Padiila is not what the Sox need. He's just another 5-6 IP.

Is he a FA at then end of the year? Or would they have to keep him for next year?

If it's just this season and only cost $ then sure. If they have to have him next year....meh...pass.

The Sox are done.

This guy is not worth the $11-12Mil that Texas is on the hook for, I believe. But for the pro-rated portion of the vet. minimum, why not? We can always use another plunk machine.

I wonder about the $1.75 mil. buy-out though. If the Sox are on the hook for that, pass.

Have I advocated getting him? I just reported that he'd cleared waivers and had been released.

Again, if you are referring to me, I have not advocated the acquisition of Padilla, so I don't know why you are throwing barbs at me. Go hit the Hash Bar and calm down.

Fair enough you didn't actually say that. I just assumed you were putting his name out there for consideration. Apologies.:D

We should all hit the Hash Bar.

Rangers have already paid it.

This is a low reward lower risk move to play. He is an accomplished starter, why not? He does have ok numbers right now. I don't see any better option
