Since we're operating under the assumption that Lowell isn't playing 3rd next year' date=' do you guys think he's traded or Ortiz is traded and Lowell moved to DH?[/quote']

I really hope if they go that way, they try and pick up someone with a little more power; but, if Lowell keeps hitting and driving in runs i dont think i would mind it.

I think at this point, it would be the best thing for Lowell to DH. David Ortiz is almost impossible to trade and the only way we can get rid of him is to eat the final year of his contract and let him go. Like I said in one of my previous post I think there is a chance that Lowell could be dealt to another AL team to be a DH and us sign a better option such as Bobby Abreu or Xavier Nady who would be both great in that spot. It is more likely that they just hang onto Lowell and let go of Ortiz and have some insurance if Youkilis were to go down with an injury.

Okay what options at 3rd you could bring in? We people are not looking at is Lars Anderson who is one of our top prospects and is prjected to be our starting first baseman in 2011. You sign a guy like Chone Figgins it would stunt his development and block him from coming up. Beyond him' date=' there are no good options on the market. There is no reason why we cant deal with this in house and have Kotchamn be our first baseman? I dont see what the huge up roar about this idea is.[/quote']

Anderson isn't hitting in AA.

Right now, he is a moot point regarding the big club.

You could not get Adrain Gonzalez without giving up Clay Buchholz in the deal. I think it is very unlikely the Pardes deal Gonzalez, He is a local kid who is very cheap for years and years to come. I find it very hard that the fans of the Padres would accept that trade and is the only thing putting people in the seats.

I like the idea of Rich Harden depending on if Wakefield comes back or not. If he does come back then and we dont trade Buchholz then I find this signing very unlikely but if one of those two dont happen, I can see Harden as an attractive option.

I think wakefield is too old and more injuries will come...

For SS i think jack wilson is a good fit.. I think we need to trade either lowell or ortiz

We need a non auto-out at SS.

Jack Wilson is the Varitek definition of auto-out.

the other option is to put V-Mart at 1B and bring in another C but I dont see that happening and I dont know who will be available but it is an options.

bengie Molina is free agent

I think that this will eventually happen, maybe not this offseason though. They have bigger needs than finding another catcher so the current one can move to 1B.

Molina on a 1-year deal doesn't sound so bad' date=' actually.[/quote']

Anything more than 1 year is pushing it. 1200 games caught on those knees, turning 35......thats borderline washed up territory for a catcher.

I agree.

I don't see any sign of him slowing down, though.

Not to mention he could get plenty of rest with V-Mart catching some games.

Wow Thats Jason varitek

Scutaro .300 11 51 .389 .448

I suggested him at the deadline, and got a lot of grief for it. Since the deadline he has done very well, we lost out.

I actually like that idea but I think the FO will be trying to pull in some SP, OFers, and a SS this offseason and then worrying about anything else so the chances of something like that happening are slim.

The thing with Scutaro is that this year is completely out of his career standards.

Taking a chance on him in the FA market is pushing it.

He is close enough to where you have to look at future signings that would effect him. Signing a long contract to a first baseman or 3rd baseman who isn't worth the money in the first place is stupid and just blocking this kid.. He is looking a lot better at the plate lately and really turned it up in the 2nd half of the season. To say that he would not be in our future plans and too sign someone and not worry about him is the Yankee way and would be foolish.

Its hard to find evidence of slowing down for a catcher, we know first hand. Vtek was very good in 05, bad in 06, rebound year in 07, then fell off the map.

Yeah' date=' if you're sad about the Jason Varitek era coming to a close.[/quote']

Varitek looks washed up and stink at the plate plus he cant throw nobody out.. i think bengie molina can steal a base from varitek

Meh on Molina. He's a good fielder and has decent pop but he never' date=' never gets on base.[/quote']

Not an auto-out though.

Neither does Varitek :harhar:

You do know that we already have a 1B who is better both offensively and defensively than Casey Kotchman.

His name is Kevin Youkilis.

It'd be better if we kept Youk at and got a good glove/better than Kotchman bat 3B.

In that scenario, Youkilis would play 3rd. At least Kotchman would be able to play 140 games and not have his hips held together by Double Bubble and Duct Tape.

Then get a first baseman who is not an auto-out.

I wish we kept LaRoche, I think Theo botched something there, those series of events at the deadline still baffle me.

Scuatro's career numbers before this season:

.261/.325/.377/.702

I'd take a .702 OPS out of my starting shortsop any day, and he wouldn't embarrass himself in the field a la Lugo.

I could easily see Scutaro coming here on a two year deal while they hope Iglesias or Navarro pan out.

SS is like the 8th most important issue for this team in the offseason, anyway.

Doesnt VMart really want to catch? I thought i read somewhere he wanted to play 1B full time.

Theo and red sox owners are becoming to be cheap cheap and cheap.. They did not sign a ss in the offseason .. they didnt sing Mark tex , they didnt trade for halladay or cliff lee ..they waste their money in garbage players like : Rocco, penny, smoltz , saito and julio lugo , drew
